Feds say it has to be 26 overall length and the barrel has to be 181/4 long. And it matters where and how you measure barrel length. A home defense profile generally meets these requirements and has the extended magazine. They all make them and they come in varying price ranges. My old 500 20ga is sporting a new short barrel the original 28 one is in the reloading room for bird hunting. Mosseburg makes replacement barrels for 870 rem and 500s. Theyre around $100 or so each. Used guns are around an my 500 was bought in 1968. Dont have to replace it very often.

Any shotgun 27 inches or longer is legal. Get a birdshead grip and use rhe 18 Mossy pump in 20 or 12 gage.
