“Hes more conservative than Reagan was”
Why is it that in order to prop up Trump some here feel they need to tear Reagan down?
How can Trump be “more” Conservative than Reagan when Reagan established modern day Conservatism? The trail he’s following was blazed by Reagan. Trump isn’t doing anything new here.
Reagan had the Soviet Union - Trump has Terrorism. Reagan had an even more dismal economy to deal with double digit inflation and double digit interest rates - Trump had a stagnant economy. Reagan had top tax rates of near 70% - Trump had corporate rates of 35%.....to cite a few examples.
That’s not to say Trump hasn’t done great things. He most certainly has. And we applaud him for it but he’s not Reagan and he’s not “more” of anything than Reagan.
Reagan is the standard by which Trump will be judged, rightfully so. Here, the pupil will never surpass the teacher.
He’s certainly better than Reagan on immigration.
Let me put it this way. I usually vote against a presidential candidate. The only time I’ve ever voted “for” one was 1980.
Notice I didn’t include 1984.
I’m not tearing down Reagan though. He really was awesome. It’s just that if you actually look at the policies championed (and passed) by Trump, and compare to those championed and passed by Reagan, as good as Reagan was (and he was amazing), Trump is actually turning out to be better for the conservative cause in his actual actions.
That’s really all I’m saying.
It’s really not that big of a deal.
Nobody will be able to drive a wedge between Trump supporters and Reagan fans, because the two groups are almost indistinguishable and as time rolls along they will be one and the same.
