Very often, kids make up stories so they will not get in trouble for something else. Something as banal as not getting home on time.

I would ask the 13-year-old if he was worried about getting in trouble.

That’s because people will remember the hype but not the truth.

The important thing is not that he lied. It’s that White Supremacists are kidnapping scores of African American children and the only thing that will stop it is free government money.

He also said he was held at a property at gunpoint until he was able to escape. Michelle Lee, the teen's mother, told Eyewitness News her son managed to escape the gun-wielding kidnappers. Based on these ridiculous-sounding allegations, I'd say the odds were next to zero from the get-go of this being true.

I thought of that. But there are better, simpler stories that wouldn’t involve so much complication for a kid.
