Demoted FBI agent Peter Strzok had larger role in Clinton, Russia probes than previously known

Peter Strzok, who was pulled off Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigative team last year, played a more central role than previously known in both the Russia and Hillary Clinton email probes, a lawmaker familiar with the matter told Fox News Tuesday.

The lawmaker's assessment of Strzok's role in both investigations was based on the most recent records and testimony, including a closed-door interview with FBI espionage chief Bill Priestap.

Priestap was interviewed Tuesday as part of an ongoing joint investigation by the House Judiciary and Oversight committees. Priestap was Strzok's supervisor and oversaw both the Russia and Clinton investigations.

The lawmaker described Priestap as a very cooperative witness, but added that unanswered questions remained about Priestap's overseas travel. One line of questioning Tuesday concerned a trip to London by Priestap in May 2016 and whether it was connected to the Russia case.

The trip was referenced by Strzok in a May 4, 2016 text message to FBI lawyer Lisa Page that said "Bill" would be "back from London next week."

Preistap was in London immediately before Australian diplomat Alexander Downer asked George Papadopoulos to meet him and a young lady for a drink.

IIRC from the Podesta emails, John Podesta was in London around the same time. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Halper was a plant. Mifsud was a plant. Downer was a plant.

Carter Page was a plant.

I’m going to give Sessions a pass. I’m a lawyer so I can tell you he had no alternative but to recuse himself. Of course you can argue that he should have declined the job but that comes down to a question of whether he knew this would involve an investigation when he accepted the job. I don’t think that is clear. On the other hand Rosenstein should have recused himself as well. I think Trump would do well to try to have him disqualified.

If there are still unanswered questions then evidently Priestap was not very cooperative.

The DOJ is infested with political partisans. The only way to get the truth out is for Trump to send a team into DOJ to declassify documents so that the truth can see the light of day. Otherwise, the truth will get buried and the corruption will continue.

Sessions is a plant.

**************

Agree. He allowed Rosenstein to stonewall and obstruct congress’ legitimate requests for documents. Why would he do that? Makes no sense unless you accept the premise that he is a Deep State plant.

Sessions recused himself from the investigation, but he can’t recuse himself from his responsibility of protecting the integrity of the investigations performed under his purview. He should never tolerate blatant conflicts of interest, resist lawful oversight, or permit a flood of leaks out of his department. No manger of any organization would ignore these key responsibilities of an executive.

The reputations of the FBI and DOJ are being shredded, yet Sessions does nothing. Again, it only makes sense if its by design.

“I’m a lawyer so I can tell you he had no alternative but to recuse himself.”

Greg Garrett, legal analyst for Fox News, has stated that Sessions applied the wrong law as basis for his recusal and that he should resign for incompetence.

I’ll be 68 next Feb. I hope to see some justice before I die but won’t be holding my breath.

This is all so damned disgusting, frustrating and maddening.

If the Republicans in congress had supported Trump perhaps there could have been more progress in exposing the corruption and some accountability by now. But they didn’t and still won’t. Its disgraceful.

is there anyone in Spygate without Dem connections?

Wikipedia: E. W. (Bill) Priestap
Priestap is married to Sabina Menschel, the current head of the Washington, D.C., office of Nardello & Co, a detective agency. Menschel’s father, Richard Menschel, is a Goldman Sachs investment banker, philanthropist and Democratic donor, as is her uncle Robert Menschel. His mother-in-law, Ronay A. Menschel, was a Democratic deputy mayor of New York City under Ed Koch...

He did not have to recuse, de minimus conversations at a party do not constitute “involvement”. He was bullied into a foolish position. Secondly, as the 500 FBI agents and 2 years of illegal tapes can attest, it not only shows a complete absence of Sessions in the investigation, it shows a complete absence of a crime. Again, there was nothing to recuse himself from. Third, it was a counter intelligence investigation and not criminal, no need to recuse. He was a fool for doing this and letting the DNC use Mueller the Goon to bludgeon the Constitution.

Unfortunately, the hapless Sessions is too incompetent to realize that he should resign for incompetence.

You’re right. Obama did everything he could to bleed America to death with a thousand cuts.

It is like a Twilight Zone movie or novel.

I think the best we can hope for is some of the Deep State will face some justice and the Deep State will be set back but not killed.

#3 re “Sessions is a plant”.

Might I suggest a “Weeping Willow”. Not quite the “Mighty Oak” I had hoped he would be, though it could turn out he was somewhere inbetween, say a Maple or Birch.

Not necessarily - could be there are questions about those who he met with that he may not have been privy to, such as under whose authority were they operating.
