It doesn't necessarily have to HAVE anything. Just knowing that the DOJ might direct its massive surveillance capabilities against them is enough to make the politicians back off. They fear of being exposed.
Basically, our politicians are very intimidated by the perceived and real powers of the Deep State.

I agree ... there’s a lot of dirty linen among a lot of politicians.
