Six percent of Americans aged 15 to 34 consider gun control the top issue facing the country, according to a new Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research and MTV poll reported on Wednesday.
That number is down from a high of 21 percent who considered it the top issue in March, according to the poll.
Four in 10 surveyed still gave the government an F grade on handling gun control issues. (RELATED: School Shooting Video Game Shut Down)
These numbers come in as March For Our Lives organizers like David Hogg remain in the news, most recently for pressuring Publix to end contributions to Florida Republican gubernatorial candidate Adam Putnam over his support for the National Rifle Association.
More young people than before feel like they can affect change in politics. Of the 939 surveyed, 46 percent said they felt like they could have at least a moderate effect on policy, up from 37 percent in March.
Thirty percent of those polled approved of President Donald Trumps performance.
The poll was conducted from April 23 to May 9 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.3 percentage points.

21% down to 6% in 4 months.... Most likely attention span depleted. I plan on making alot of money off this generation.
Some whack lefty will shoot upside place just b4 the election. When stationed overseas we stayed on base during local elections.
“I plan on making alot of money off this generation.’’ Go for it. Never give a sucker an even break.
Remember Pokemon Go! The Tide Challenge?
The Left hates the nuclear family because of the devotion parents normally have for their children along with the transference of wisdom.
Politics aside, it’s fun too! Visiting SC again soon and our 18 year-old son is again looking forward to shooting some autos at the local range, can’t do that in NJ.
The voting age needs to be raised to at least 27! After all, Obama claimed that 26 year olds were still “children”. ;^)
It seems very obvious that the gun control activists have made things worse for themselves.
With their little schemes.
Young Americans who think they know it all... get on my nerves ... they have not lived long enough to know anything and if they are college educated or publilc school educated... we KNOW they have not been taught, but indoctrinated. I don’t want to hear their gripes and what we all ought to do... they don’t have a clue about life and do not have common sense. (apology to those who are not in the above group)..
I have about 26 ideas how to outright defraud Generation Z. I plan on being the Kevin Trudeau of Generation Z. My favorite idea is a service that charges monthly and provides them with an outdated , cheap bulky wristband they carry around , so when they see a social injustice they have to fill out a 20 minute report form on a crappy wristband then send it to my service. We of course do nothing but respond like we are sending the social justice police. Ill get a few Gen Z idols to endorse it and they can feel good reporting social injustices and we can laugh at them for being stupid.I figure $99 a month. Ill have to come up with a cool and slick infomercial and get some high powered endorsements.
The little twerps are so tied into Facebook, Tweeting, and Instagram, it’s amazing they can keep on target for more than the few seconds each topic gets on those services.
If it’s not trending, they might just as well be deaf, dumb, and blind.
Hysteria always burns itself out quickly.
Apple’s new emojis are far more important to this group
The gun, as with any tool that can be put to good or bad uses, becomes less concerning when it fades into context. Most people aren’t yet so malicious as to want to shoot somebody at random.
Still, it’s very well not to act the ass about them. That vitiates the politics of the cause. Lose that and you might as well have an utterly symbolic 2nd Amendment.
But yet it’s possible for them to muster enough shifts to go 24/7 — if they want.
Ain’t that the truth. Good luck to you in your venture. I agree, an 11 second attention span bodes poorly for the special breed of snowflakes bred as victims who hate their country and hate their government until they want their government to take control of everyone else so that they can get their way.
