Apocalypse Angie: Merkel's Dark View of the World We Live In
Der Spiegel ^ | June 05, 2018 04:12 PM | René Pfister

Posted on 06/07/2018 10:09:00 AM PDT by Olog-hai

When Angela Merkel visited her party’s parliamentary group in mid-April, she didn’t talk about how she wants to change the pension system. Tolls on German highways were also not on her list, nor were all the problems with diesel emissions in the country. She didn’t even complain about the Christian Social Union (CSU), the outspoken Bavarian sister party to her Christian Democrats. Instead, she wanted to talk about the Peace of Augsburg, signed in 1555. […]

[…] If you look at the world through her lens, the riders of the apocalypse are already appearing on the horizon. […]

In her thoughts, Merkel is actually more revolutionary. She feels everything needs to move much faster, in Europe and in Germany, which can’t even manage to build an airport in its capital city — in stark contrast to a China that can build entire metropolises from scratch within just a few years. During her trips to China, there is always a hint of appreciations for the Chinese government, which isn’t burdened by protracted planning approval procedures and where no politician is forced to laboriously explain himself to the citizens. China is governed from the top down.

Something has to happen, Merkel said with concern as she traveled back to Berlin, impressed by the drive of Beijing’s leaders. And then, in the same breath, she went on to explain why nothing could happen: because her hands are tied by German federalism, by the center-left Social Democrats in her government, and by the CSU, which often acts as more of an adversary than as a sister party. …

“Tolls on German highways “

I’d love to see folks blowing by tollbooths on the autobahn.

“impressed by the drive of Beijing’s leaders”

And thoroughly unimpressed that the german people actually have some freedom left, I take it.

Well, since most people don’t drive at triple-digit speeds on the Autobahn (except in kilometers per hour), tolling by scanning is not unfeasible. The rest of the taxes ought to go, though. And the roads thereof ought to be privately owned. (Good luck doing that in Germany.)

She has the soul of a godless dictator... once again Germany is working to destroy civilization:

https://www.nationalreview.com/2018/06/european-democracy-in-decline-elite-attitudes/

“Contrary to politically correct dogma, Christianity, military deterrence, democracy, and veneration of a unique past did not destroy Europe.

Instead, the culprit of European decline was the very absence of such ancient values — both then and now”

“I must act.” The mantra of every dictator.

Hard call, there. As much as some try to paint Merkel as Obama’s toady, it was the other way around. And Merkel has been in power longer; what she did to the EU at large speaks volumes.

Reflected in Obama’s version, “If Congress doesn’t act, I will”.

The merest sound of Obama's voice curdles my blood. At least Angie would sprechen sie Deutsch.

“Trump is implementing his campaign promises, no matter how asinine they might be, as if going down a checklist.”

Der Spiegel’s opinion about Trump’s promises, aside, this sounds pretty good to me. A politician actually trying to keep his campaign promises? That’s pretty close to a miracle.

It's a little difficult to tell what such Europeans as the author really want out of their government. On the one hand, Merkel is enjoined to take up the burden of leadership of an international order that has proven signally incompetent at accomplishing anything at all except accruing political power it has not earned. On the other, Trump and Putin are deplored as nationalistic disappointments, both apparently interested in actually discharging their offices as proponents of the nations that put them there rather than committing to bending their countries to some sort of gooey, undefined internationalism that has clearly run its course everywhere but in the imaginations of the True Believers. Such as, for example:

If Hillary Clinton had won the election in the U.S., Merkel would not have run again, says one person who speaks with her on an almost daily basis. But that didn't happen. In his new book about his years in the West Wing, former Barack Obama adviser Benjamin Rhodes writes that Merkel felt obligated to defend the free world order in the wake of Trump's victory.

The what? The free world order? Or the international ruling class that has suddenly found itself as outdated as hoop skirts and transistor radios? What is happening worldwide, and especially in Europe, is a widespread rejection of those comfortable homilies and pious assumptions that are as substantial as fairy dust. And the fairies don't like it.

"If Germany fails in the duties of the central European power, Europe will fail," Münkler wrote.

But Germany will not, and that's really the point here. The European dream has turned into a smothering central state that is openly attempting to crush the spice of nationalism into a bland porridge of conformity. Austria and Hungary, for example, realize full well that they're no longer an empire but feel understandably that they'd like to remain Austria and Hungary, thanks very much, instead of tasteless pan-European toast slathered with a layer of Islam. They're far from alone.

If Europe really wanted to take its fate into its own hands, it would be a good idea to create a European rapid response force that could intervene quickly in crisis situations. Macron proposed precisely that during his Sorbonne speech and Merkel supports the idea in principle.

But the devil is in the details, and this ostensible Leader Of The Free World hasn't bothered even to dedicate resources to its own defense, much less live up to its international commitments, and, worse, has openly expressed an intention to continue not to do so. Whence, then, this "leadership"? Is a Germany, which can't even manage to build an airport in its capital city to be taken seriously as a champion of anything?

That’s the whole thing. The rule-by-crisis dogma is meant to induce demand for a strongman; note Merkel’s over-emphasis on dictatorial leadership as a solution to “federalism” for the implementation of socialism.

What the Yurps haven’t figured out is that you can’t lead anything if you can’t even defend yourself. Nobody takes you seriously without the credible threat of military force. Until they start living in the world as it is rather than as they wish it were, they will always be pygmies internationally.

That’s in addition to the fact that socialism and multiculturalism are destroying their societies from within.

“a China that can build entire metropolises from scratch within just a few years”
Fail!
China is a communist totalitarian dictatorship. It can order people to do whatever it wants them to do. It can expel people and confiscate property more easily than normal countries.

If Hillary had won it would have been the end of Western Civilization, Merkel would have done her part, no need then to rule offer the end of the end.

If Hillary had won all of Western Civilization could have been brought down and there would be no greener grass to point to, just an inevitable end.

And that kind of “leadership” would be what they are seeking in the EU. Not that they haven’t exercised it to some degree already.

But Merkel is no longer under any illusions. Trump is implementing his campaign promises, no matter how asinine they might be, as if going down a checklist.

Fair and balanced?

This is the rag that published the cover showing Trump as a middle finger with the phrase “Goodbye Europe” next to it. They make our left-wing media look like pikers, with the hate and lies they spew.
