I’m stunned. I started to like his charisma and people skills when on the Taste. His book about the truth of working in restaurant kitchens was great. But at some point his arrogance and politics made me begin to dislike him, and I stayed disliking him until today. Nevertheless, I am shocked he would kill himself. He was by far his biggest fan: maybe people who seem marinated in arrogance are really anxious and insecure the entire time.

He had a young child. Once, he was very attached to his daughter. Perhaps all these recent years of traveling all year made him break the link with his child, but no doubt he has destroyed that girl’s life. I know that having my children takes away my privilege to commit suicide.

There are two excuses we may find out about that would make me less angry at him: bipolar or other serious depression, like Kate Spade. The children of people with bipolar will eventually understand their parent was so mentally sick they didn’t have control to stay alive even for them. The other would be that he was seriously addicted to a hard drug once more, and couldn’t get off even after serious attempts.

If someone is a vulnerable, seeking, desperate human being, here is an idea: DONT TREAT PEOPLE WITH SUCH HATRED AND SUPERIORITY like Bourdain!!! If he’s been suffering, maybe he should have been more sensitive. Why was he so harsh and mean to others? Why did he choose some people to be Holy and some to be treated with utter disdain, because of how they believed or their skin color? Being arrogant and being “cool above all else” was not learning the truth about life.

He managed to travel the entire world, and bring millions along on his discoveries, and yet his number one emotion he displayed was contempt for whom he didn’t find “cool” enough. His love of whom he found in far flung peasant villages always seemed pandering to me. Remember, he was in that little hut in the middle of nowhere with a team of cameras and directors etc. He always had to be the Better White Guy. I never could get into his self absorbed scenario and his need to be publicly adored while showing zero kindness to any American who might disagree about things with him.

For me what is really sad is that he must have been a person with deep emotions and needs, and yet zero of any sensitivity was shown by him. He blocked off his human with needs and feelings and coated it with unparalleled arrogance and hostility. What a shame. How can you get the love and support and help you need when you are so haughty?

Or maybe he just pulled a David Carradine. Who knows? Not my favorite foodie. Mark Simone is talking about him now - how politics destroyed their friendship.

“I am intensely grateful for the kindness, hospitality, and patience the people of West Virginia showed to this ignorant rube from New York City who arrived with so many of the usual preconceptions, only to have them turned on their head.”

Anthony Bourdain

Not to be negative but dogs die. ( in response to suggestion that we use dogs to fight depression)

For every dog that dies, there are ten others that are waiting to be adopted.

I agree with the "dogs as therapy". The happiest (and healthiest) years of my life are when I had a dog.

We used to watch his show also...interesting places he went and local foods he would focus on. Then he started getting more and more political and when he went to cnn he became unwatchable.

I always thought he wasn’t a particularly happy person...like all libs.

Oh I know. I lost one last year and then rescued another one the next month. It’s so sad but the time we have with them is incredibly special and fulfilling.

... Ted Nugent.

Not sure of the timing, show-wise, but Bourdain did Boston with columnist/talker Howie Carr.

They ended up in the studio for Carr's drive time show, and Nugent called in.

I think he may have invited Bourdain down, but it could have all been a publicity setup for both Bourdain and Nugent's epi together.

I do think a dog or anything to care for is very useful to human beings. That said it often seems when they lose a beloved pet people are not willing to move on and adopt another, but will wallow in grief, often very bitter grief, for a long time up to the rest of their lives.

That has not been my experience. I understand from a biological point of view that canines can expect an average lifespan of 7-11 years. So if my pet hits 10 years, I consider myself fortunate and the balance of life after that is "bonus" time.

Remember to feed and exercise your dog well for maximum life. I try to have my dog walked for 5 miles a day and I like to feed my dog a meat-based diet - preferably raw meat (but it is expensive) as well as bone marrow and eggs. Whenever I am cooking poultry, I set aside the giblets for the dog (liver, heart, kidneys).

Although I get quite attached to my canine companions, I am always eager to have another dog enter my life after my current pet passes on. I do tend to give it about 90 days or so.
