Special counsel Robert Mueller files new indictment against Paul Manafort

Special counsel Robert Mueller filed a superseding indictment Friday against former Trump campaign chief Paul Manafort, and added Russian citizen Konstantin Kilimnik as a defendant.

The superseding indictment lodged by a grand jury sitting in federal court in Washington, DC, came days after Mueller asked the judge in Manafort's case to revoke his bail and jail him because of an alleged effort to tamper with witnesses.

This is a breaking news story. Please check back for updates.

Trump should mandate the release of all relevant documents in this Russia collusion case about 4 - 6 weeks before the November election for maximum impact.

Good plan - I like it!

Far enough before the election for the DOJ and FBI to embarrass themselves once again.

But close enough to the election that the media can't sweep it under the rug.

Trump should have just set up a FOUNDATION charity and done like Hillary, because there you can get away with anything...

I thought once a GJ returned an indictment it was over except to refine typos and such.[p]

No. They can always supersede the original indictment, add new defendants, add new charges, etc.

Completely un-constitutional law enforcement. How does this mutation of law continue? How did we get here? What legal authority is there for this process?

You would probably have to ask the AG for an answer for that. If you can find him.

I really think Trump should immediately grant him clemency and end this nazi witch hunt. WHAT DIS HE DO??? NOTHING!!!!!

On the contrary, Manafort broke a ton of laws. Trump hired him as campaign manager because he was effective in the primaries. Tnen Trump got rid of him. The laws Manafort broke have nothing to do with Trump or the Trump campaign.

Not saying Manafort isn't a bad apple but it shouldn't come under Mueller's investigation. This should be handed off to DOJ.

All too true, but Mueller wants to pressure Manafort into confessing to Russian collusion for the benefit of the Trump campaign. I'm sure Mueller can invent some Manafort meeting taking delivery of emails or something. The problem for Mueller is no voters except the minority of rabid Trump haters believe he matters.

Someone once leaked a little info about the grand jury that is Muller’s. It sounded like his grand jury is a real circus show. And just as rigged as the rest of his investigation.

So Freeper Legal beagles. Is this a move to get out of Ellis’s court and in front of a DOJ lap dog Judge? What does “superseding indictment” mean?

A superseding indictment is to add new charges to an existing indictment. The case stays with the same judge.

Mueller has two grand juries, one in Alexandria, Virginia and one in Washington D.C.

From what I'm reading this is an IRS issue. The indictment is based on not reporting taxes from over seas investments.

Nothing in that indictment says anything about how the IRS was informed or if the IRS handed this case.

I think Manafort is the most vulnerable of all of Mueller’s targets. Not for “Russian Collusion” per se, but for his business practices and connections.

If Manafort fights back and stalls for time, he may beat Mueller when all of the other illegal and unethical things Muller and company have done become exposed for all to see.

Never met Manafort, never heard him speak, know almost nothing of his international connections, so I can’t judge him. However, it is more important to destroy Mueller and his corrupt agents in order to preserve our democracy than to make Manafort some kind of angel or devil.

Mueller knows he has nothing on our president and knows the people of this country is getting sick and tired of his lies on our president so now to keep his money coming in he has picked another victim..Time to bring out the criminal things Mueller and his liberal lawyers are guilty of and get them shipped off to GITMO..

Actually, he’s Ukrainian...but, for Mueller’s purposes, he’s described as a Russian-Ukrainian. That will fool most Americans who are ignorant of Eastern European facts.
