Now, if one of these city kids then decides they're against meat and want to be vegetarian — or vegan, even — it's no problem for me. I was a vegan for some months (and yes, a woman was involved) and a vegetarian for about six years for various reasons, and was perfectly happy as an ovo-lacto vegetarian. Your body, your choice, as they say.
What annoyed me was the subtext, the underlying apparent motivation of the speaker, which pretty clearly could be summed up as "If those ignorant hicks only knew, they'd agree with me."
This attitude, that the issue in any dispute isn't a difference in opinion but just invincible ignorance, seems to me to underly a whole lot of the arguments we have politically today, and an awful lot of time it's an unfounded assumption.

I’ve seen that far too often. Metrosexuals in the city (and I am assuming their gender because their personalities are their only female traits) “know” about meat far better than the unsophisticated lower classes. If the rural folks from Texas knew what beef really is, if the country boys from North Carolina knew what pork really is, if the hicks from Colorado knew what lamb really is, we’d choose to become emasculated beta males just like the elitists who demand that we allow them to run our lives.
Something I’ve always noticed. There are many that have a “holier than thou” attitude and use it to denigrate those that don’t follow their “religion”.
This is the kernel of attitude that justifies denial of treatment for the “unhealthy” as well as for state mandated euthanasia in socialized medicine.
The way things are going, I figure within about 30 years, it won’t be the bodies of jews being bulldozed into pits, but smokers.

I can't say that veganism is a core element of liberal theocratic dogma. However, liberals that ARE vegans tend to be more militant than their conservative bretheren....just think of the college freshman back home for Thanksgiving: young Deplorable Mary who is finding it easier to focus at school on a vegan diet is quietly helping herself to mashed potatoes and vegetables, while young Antifa John is chastising his family for eating the agribusiness-culled death-flesh (read: turkey) being savagely carved by Pop.

Fortunately for me I do not hang out with vegans, not because they are vegans they just tend to be annoying on all fronts.

A vegan diet lacks the essential vitamin B12 which can only be obtained in effective form by eating meat. B12 supplements simply produce expensive urine.
