A jury could award $100 billion if they wanted to ... and it would be thrown out by the judge in the case. The biggest challenge a plaintiff has in a case like this is proving that anyone has actually suffered any harm that would warrant a monetary award for damages.

Defamation requires little proof of damages as damages are presumed when you falsely accuse someone of murder, theft and the like.
