Democrats and journalists are misrepresenting the law. What they are raging at Trump now is what they ignored under Obama. There is nothing Trump can do about the actual policy, since it is a federal law 1997 Flores vs. Meese case. The Truth about Separating Kids, by Rich Lowry spells it out.

Unless there is a change in federal law, and then dealing with challenges citing Flores, the policy will stand. It would stand if Hillary or Bernie was elected. So it is safe, easy and cowardly for Democrats to attack Trump on a policy that's been around for 20 years that no one cared about until now.
