My understanding is that he lost about 1/3 of what it would have been if he was able to retire a week later.

Instead of early retirement, it became a Vested pension when I believe he can't start until either age 55 or 60......

I think the vested begins at 62 and is calculated based on his high so many years of pay, while employed. That means a portion of his retirement will be delayed till he is 13 years older. The social security portion remains as is and is equal to everyone elses. His other portion, assuming he has 25 years of law enforcement service, remains in tact
