Denuking of the entire Peninsula is a face save for Kim. Without nukes in the north Kim loses his extortion handle and makes no difference to the real situation as Kim's nukes are on Chinese strings, anyway. Kim can threaten and extort with them all he wants buy the trigger is in Peking.

We can ostentatiously refrain from stationing our nuke laden ships in Southern ports and make a big deal out of sailing away. Those nukes aare quite unnecessary to us as we have lots of nukes all over the Western Pacific.

I wonder what this deal has in store for Norkea economically. Trump could cause Kim to allow the place to turn into another Vietnam, with rapid economic progress and secure positions for Kim and his cronies.

Việt Nam has an advantage in that it is, though Communist, not actually one man rule. The Politburo really does decide and there is input from several sources with somewhat different perspectives. The Chairman doesn't have to worry about assassination and coups. he does not make totally arbitrary decisions. That allows for much more leeway to permit capitalism and real economic development. Another difference is that Việt Nam has to keep America as a friend because it has a real and age old enemy, China on its northern border. North Korea is an appendage of that same China. The best outcome, I think, of all this would be to provide Kim Jong Un with a palatial mansion and estate on the Riviera for life with no return to Asia ever. Then, things can change, perhaps on something like the Hong Kong model.
