Canada has taken more advantage of the USA through NAFTA than Mexico has. They have set it up so they get to tax whatever they want and we give them free entry on almost everything.

Some well-connected individuals on both sides of the border must have gotten very rich after the terms of this "deal" went into effect - which is the real purpose of all of these giant free trade agreements.

Justin Trudeau WAS hurt, and there is not enough buttwax in the world to make it go away any faster.

Straighten up and fly right, cowboy. Nobody pities the hot dog.

Justin Trudeau and Kim Jong Un are both in the same box, so far as Donald Trump is concerned. That The Donald has gone from the one to the other in a matter of a couple days was probably no coincidence.

“every country should try to be self sufficient on the basics”

I agree that self-sufficiency should be in the equation.

Yeah, but oil in fungible, so if we are importing it from anywhere, its still driving up demand on the world market.

I say subject oil to the same general tariffs you restore on everything else. You can either use the tariff money to lower gas taxes. Or you can build nuclear sites. or....

America has been fleeced for decades. Other countries need to examine why they aren’t as successful and stop looking for a free ride.

Reciprocity is the key to fairness equilibrium. The entire trade issue will equalize over time.

A good portion of the last few weeks worth of President Trump’s “diplomacy” has been show for Kim’s benefit. President Trump knows these Canadian and European weenies can be pummeled and brow beaten and they will just keep coming back for more. North Korea however is a problem that has been shoved on the back burner by every American President since July 27, 1953.

The time for those A-holes to be taken care of is about 50 years over due. Opportunities such as The death of Mao, the Soviet implosion came and went with no one having The balls to take care of this nonsense. President Trump inherited this mess from his predecessors. But the regime is made up of idiots and yes men, a type of organization that President Trump is uniquely qualified to deal with.

It’s not just about fairness. We could all drop our imports and it would be “fair”. And that would destroy American industries. Because the labor costs are so much lower in China and third world countries.

It’s about protecting our industries, not being too economically dependent on other countries, and keeping ownership of US equities in American hands. One way to keep ownership of US equities in American hands is not to run large trade deficits.

“And if they do, put his eyebrows on correctly this time.”

Now that the eyebrows look like they may be applied, d’ya think that lovely head of hair may be a wig? Prez. Trump ought to give it a tug next time they meet.

Trudeau’s mother was a bit off the beam. Apples don’t fall far from the tree.

For the benefit of Canada he should sit down with Trump and work this out, but since there are not many Trump fans in Canada, he wins politically by trashing Trump and the trade deals. It puts the conservative opposition in a hard place.

Even Canadians don’t like them. The purpose of the dairy tariffs and the marketing boards is to make consumers pay more milk and milk products. Just think medallions in New York for taxis. The marketing board keeps down supply numbers to keep prices up, barring any new entrants into the market.

>> The entire trade issue will equalize over time <<

Well no, it won’t.

As long as the US dollar is the world reserve currency, and as long as the rate of return on investment in the USA is higher than the worldwide average rate of return, foreigners will want to invest more in the USA than we invest overseas. That is, we will have an INVESTMENT SURPLUS.

And because of the way double-entry bookkeeping works for dealing with GDP and other measures of national income, the investment surplus is simply the mirror image of the so-called trade deficit. Always, always, always.

In other words, there is no rational or realistic possibility that the bogeyman “trade deficit” will disappear, as long as we have an investment surplus. The logic is inescapable.

Therefore, you may as well get used to the idea. Lean back and enjoy it!

Yep. Why otherwise would she have her famous affair with Gerry Rivers?

When asked to explain why his eyebrow was falling off after the meeting with President Trump Trudeau said "He broke me and my salty tears dissolved the glue."

“Prime Minister Centerfold’s poll numbers have been slipping in recent months. This should give them a shot in the arm. Which is probably why Trudeau did what he did.”

Nope, anyone with an open mind can see the Trudeau’s and Canada’s position is “Tariffs for me but not for thee”.
