“Canada has been getting a free ride for decades”

Canada has an “entitlement mentality” when it comes to trade. The leaders of Canada are in for a rude awakening.

“Reciprocity is the key to fairness equilibrium. The entire trade issue will equalize over time.”

The trick is to equalize trade before the trade deficits destroy your economy and you reach trade equilibrium because you are too broke to import anything and too broke to manufacture anything to export.

Don’t we do the same with sugar.
There is a reason why almost everything is made with corn syrup instead.

>> The trick is to equalize trade before the trade deficits destroy your economy <<

Not at all. I recommend that you take a little time to educate yourself on the way national income statistics are put together. The double-entry bookkeeping used for national income accounting always works out so that our so-called “trade deficit” is always equal to our investment surplus.

So if we could magically eliminate the “trade deficit” (which we can’t do), we would also be eliminating something like $500 billion worth of annual foreign investment in our country. THAT kind of operation is what would really destroy the economy.

Trump is using tariffs as a threat to level the reciprocity playing field. BTW, There is a history of tariffs in the US.

Nope, anyone with an open mind can see the Trudeau’s and Canada’s position is “Tariffs for me but not for thee”.

Canada has tariffs on imports from the U.S. and the U.S. has tariffs on imports from Canada. Trump increases U.S. tariffs then only a fool would think that other countries won't increase theirs.

Well that proves the rest of the world does not believe in the Free Trade fairy tale religion. LOL. Free Traitors™ are a funny lot.

After all, it’s better to import TP than to do without.

Danny come on do you not think we could ramp up TP production very rapidly?

Because the labor costs are so much lower in China and third world countries.

Danny, cheap labor only gets you so far. The average unit labor costs in the USA to make goods here is 7%. In China it is not zero, it's about 2%. We are destroying industrial economy for 5 cents on the dollar.

When you buy a foreign made import you are are actually hiring foreign nationals to build, assemble, ship that product. You are picking foreign workers over Americans. That is the reality of what is happening with trade. Those foreign workers are not paying income taxes to uncle Sam and those imports come in duty free! OTH our workers are burdened with regs and taxes.

THIS IS EVIL!!!!! Free Traitors™ aren't just wrong they are doing something I consider evil.

annual foreign investment = globalists gambling in the US stock market.

If trade deficits are so great why do the rest of the world run surpluses? LOLOLOL

You always overlook the most pertinent fact.

Americans like stuff made in China and will continue to purchase such importa as long as aviable.

Your ridiculous rhetoric (law breaking by the way) is belied by the reality of American freedom of choice

I just hope prices don’t go up on things my family buys.

The prices on goods will be higher, post tariff. Much higher at first them lower later on as domestic supplies kick in. The higher cost will be the difference in US labor/regs minus cheaper shipping costs. I'd estimate 5-7% higher. But quality will go up too. Yes, the one time inflation is worth it to me and a lot of other patriots.

Politics and economics mesh, they are really the same thing. Whether pointy headed green eye shade arm banded ledger types like it or not, that is the reality.

The 30 year globalist experiment in "Free Trade" is an abject failure and ending thankfully. Why? because the rest of the of world did't play along and used us which is obvious to everyone.

It is not soverign
