LIVE THREAD: US-North Korea talks moving 'more quickly than expected'
The British Broadcasting Corporation ^ | June 11, 2018

The US says its discussions with North Korea are moving "more quickly than expected" ahead of the summit in Singapore on Tuesday.

The preliminary talks between officials have been taking place ahead of the unprecedented first meeting.

The White House also confirms that President Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un will hold a one-on-one meeting, with only translators present.

The outcome may determine the fate of North Korea's nuclear programme.

The US insists it will accept nothing less than complete denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula.

North Korea has said it is willing to commit to denuclearisation, but that term is open to interpretation.

It is also unclear what concessions Pyongyang could demand in return - which makes the summit very hard to predict, according to analysts....

Personally it would not surprise me if the deal was already struck and this is just the show.

That's been my take as well. I just can't picture Trump making such a high profile trip like this without the outcome already being pre-determined.

The photo below on the White House lawn last week pretty much confirmed my theory. Look how happy and relaxed they all are!

China has other fish to fry. I don’t believe they have tons of extra food they can just dole out to other countries.

News flash: “Analysts” can’t predict the future. Who knew. Especially since the media is chock full of the know-it-alls who sit on their posteriors yakking while others actually accomplish something more than blowing hot air.

Beams are not made of iron.

Well, they can't be made of steel, because you know, fire can't melt steel according to Rosie.

The problem with future inspections is that in a country like NK, Lil’ Kim could be taken out by the end of the week and an entirely new hardline and more ruthless regime could take over and completely abrogate any agreement Kim agreed to.

And, if I remember correctly, Tom Clancy wrote about this weapon in Red Storm Rising. Except it was used on tanks against their engines.

I was just going to post the same thing. IMHO everything was put in place with China, Pompeo went and told Kim what he was going to go along with, and this is all show to make it look less clandestine.

I think that there is an agreement on major issues already, and that the Trump-Kim summit will result in a major announcement. There will then be a series of meetings between Trump and Kim, throughout the coming months resulting in a treaty being presented to the senate in September. The dems will then drag their feet, Trump will respond by going on TV and accuse them of attempting to sabotage world peace for political reasons.

Ah, yes, BJ’s little air war with muslims against Christians, a two-fer, to distract Americans from his “private, personal affairs”.

Thanks, guess it already was defunct by the time I read the book shortly after it came out.

Your “than expected” is wrong. Go do another expectation, and get it right this time.

I actually think the Chicoms are the turd in the punch bowl here. They probably do want the Norks to denuke but that is about it, no end to the war and no normal relations with the US. Rocket man may want more and the Chicoms will push back against him. They are using the Norks as a thorn in our sides as they have since 1953, but they just don’t want the nukes because in the long run the Japanese and South Koreans will develop their own nukes and the Chicoms and no one else in the area want the Japanese with nukes.

Japan and South Korea are both one screwdriver turn from nuclear weapons. If countries as poor and primitive as Pakistan and North Korea have them, you know this is true. Then Saudi Arabia wants them because Iran has them. Then more European nations feel they need them because of Russia. On and on.

Well, we might have bombed them, but technically we never went to war with Serbia.

The rods from God articles lack some serious physics obstacles. For example:

The "rods from God" idea was a bundle of telephone-pole-size (20 feet long, 1 foot in diameter) tungsten rods, dropped from orbit, reaching a speed of up to 10 times the speed of sound.

If you actually do the simulation and physics, these claims of supersonic freefall don't hold up. In fact, the Earths atmosphere creates increasing drag on an object in freefall from orbit and orbit velocity such that by the time it reaches the ground it has been slowed (as well as ablated) to barely a few hundred miles an hour. Enough to do serious damage, to a person or home or structure, but nothing like a bomb taking out city blocks.

As I have pointed out on other threads of this topic, if the physics allowed what the articles claim, then we would be getting serious damage routinely from meteors. As it is, most meteors don't even make it to the ground, and its been a very long time since a meteor did any major damage. Earths atmosphere prevents it.
