I am approaching my 79th birthday and my fortieth year of sobriety. I was able to get this far only through the Grace and Mercy of Jesus Christ. I scarcely recognize the man I was twenty years ago, let alone forty years. I underwent some tough times, the loss of both parents, getting custody and legal guardianship of my daughters, the loss of one of those daughters four years ago. I made it primarily due to the presence of a church family, people who made it very clear that they were there for me. And, of course, I’ve tried to reach out to others in the same vein. As I told a youngish single mom just recently, “we are family here, your concerns are our concerns.”
God bless. You are an instrument of the Lord’s peace.
