Road Trip: Vance Air Force Base, Oklahoma

Vance Air Force Base is a United States Air Force base located in southern Enid, Oklahoma, about 65 miles north northwest of Oklahoma City. The base is named after local World War II hero and Medal of Honor recipient, Lt Col Leon Robert Vance Jr.

The host unit at Vance is the 71st Flying Training Wing (71 FTW), which is a part of Air Education and Training Command (AETC).

Currently there are 128 buildings and 292 facilities on Vance AFB as of October 2016. Vance is currently replacing the outside runway and several taxiways and recently completed construction of a new Air Traffic Control Tower.

The mission of the 71st Flying Training Wing is to develop professional Airmen, deliver world-class U.S. & Allied pilots and deploy combat-ready warriors. Vance is responsible for training Air Force and allied student pilots for worldwide deployment and Aerospace Expeditionary Force support. The wing reports to Air Education and Training Command.

Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training (SUPT) is divided into three phases that cover 52 weeks. Phase I (preflight) is 24 days long and is split into two units: five hours of ground training, including emergency procedures, aircraft operating limitations, checklist usage and local radio procedures; and 220.9 hours of academic training including aerospace physiology/human factors,T-6 systems, flying fundamentals and introduction to aerodynamics.

How are things down your way this evening? Did it get as hot today as they’d predicted?

LOL! I got distracted while typing the other post and you posted before I got back to it.

UGH! It sure did get hot there today! I’d hoped they might have gotten it wrong for once.

It was 90 when I left this afternoon with Suvi and Sasha but after it rained when I got home, it was down to 74. It’s going to be like this all week. *sigh*

What DARLING lil behbeh kittehs! But just what you needed ... NOT!
They look very well-fed at least.

I hope all's well down your way these days.

Our little Suvi went on a road trip today but not to any place cool like a military base. She went to the eeeeeeeevil doctor for her first check-up and is a healthy lil girlie. Got this pic of her last night in her favorite spot.......my lap. LOL

Their mommy is feeding them well, because I’m not. They run when I go out to feed her, and I prefer it that way. LOL!

I do have a large bowl of water for all the cats outside, and they are drinking it a lot of it in this heat.

I just hope it cools a bit for the rest of the week like they “promise”. LOL!

Nice of you to keep plenty of water out for them as well as your own cats. It’s crucial when the temps get so high.
I hope LBK’s owners are feeding her well since she’s feeding 4 kittens.

I hope along with you for cooler temps the rest of the week. Everyone needs the break.

Glad things are going well.
I hear ya on the “as long as the A/C keeps working” thing. Summer got here early too! It’s felt like July or August here the past month and a half. UGH!

It just doesn’t seem that LBK has owners. But I feed her when I feed Ghost. She is a little piggie, though, and doesn’t leave much for him. He is a real gentleman with her and the babies.

I also got rid of that nasty frayed collar she was wearing. It just got worse every day. I keep hoping that will bring the owner to the door demanding that I leave their cat alone. LOL! No chance of that, I’m sure.

Your li’l wild Indian has learned from the pros......The Terrible Four! LOL!
