North Korean leader Kim Jong Un promised historic change Tuesday while signing a letter to cap his summit with President Donald Trump in Singapore on denuclearization.
Today, we had a historic meeting and decided to leave the past behind and we are about to sign the historic document, Kim said. The world will see a major change. He also thanked Trump for the summit.

Just saw on Fox News...
Nikki Haley met previously and separately with the UN Ambassadors from Russia and China, where she explained that the USA was one major provocation from DPRK away from causing devastation.
I recall that both China and Russia recently met with Kim, where they explained this to him. That may have been a key factor in why Kim has made the agreement with Trump.
Interesting take. Maybe China is just tired of babysitting the NORKs. China has successfully incorporated a semi-capitalist economy while maintaining Mao-style political control. They might be wanting the same for North Korea, especially as it will help get us off of China’s back.
Who knows what deals Trump has waiting between China and the US that might contain this North Korea situation as a blocker.
China is Singapore minus the Confucian culture.
They’re both Han Chinese societies with high capital economies ruled by authoritarian regimes.
Want to hazard a guess as to what Xi told Kim in that meeting?

Probably what Nikki Haley had told the UN Ambassadors from Russia and China; that one more provocation by DPRK would result in a major response from the US.
Recall when Trump sent an "armada" to South China Sea earlier in his term.
Apr 18, 2017 - The "armada" that President Trump said he was sending to deter North ... in the South China Sea, or in which direction the ships were sailing.
The Navys rare move to simultaneously assemble three aircraft carriers in the Pacific will create a major display of American sea power at a time when President Donald Trump is planning to visit the region for the first time next week.
The three Navy carriers accompanied by more than 20,000 sailors, hundreds of aircraft and an array of destroyers and cruisers will all be underway in the Japan-based 7th Fleets area of operations.
No! That would have been catastrophic and caused the North to unleash their weapons on Seoul.
Precisely. That's what I said in my first comment.
SERIOUSLY???
This works or Trump is going to decimate most of North Korea. Rocketboy knows it, China knows it, and so does the entire region. The last thing China wants is the millions of refugees crossing their border and screwing up their growing capitalism as they head into hegemony in the region. The Norks have been a roadblock to China's imperialism and I have long thought China wished them away.
Peace on the Korean peninsula will happen. Mark my words. How it proceeds regarding integration like East and West Germany may take more time if Kim is left in power. Eventually, this event is going to be as big as the fall of the Berlin wall.
One step at a time gentlemen and ladies. First unconditional and verified denuclearization. Next, KIM and others get sanctions lifted and build their economy. Then they get world investments. Finally, slow reunification with South Korea. Example: Viet Nam. We are watching history made by the day.
Who initiated this? A businessman and not a weasel politician. I've been saying such for years. Get the lawyer politicians out and things will get done by businessmen.
With due respect, I don't get why anyone even brings that up. The Nobel Peace Prize has been a joke since first awarded to Arafat simply because he went to the table at Camp David. After not getting some 3% of his demands he immediately called for an intifada against Israel. What a "Peaceful" guy he was. And we know the rest of that story until Israel built there wall.
Then you have Obama getting that worthless prize for doing NOTHING other than bowing and scraping to world potentates and apologizing for America's leadership. The Nobel Peace Prize and %5.80 at Starbucks will buy you a cappuchino.
I would hope if this Korean peace comes to fruition and Trump is offered such a now carnival prize, he refuses it.
Kim said he’ll trade his political prisoners for Robert DeNiro and other Liberals...
You are absolutely right; I remember when Reagan and Gorbachev took steps to end the Cold War in response to Reagan’s strategy. Gorbachev got the Nobel “peace” Prize, Reagan did not.
I also think the earthquake was caused by Rods-From-God, but what do I know.
Get the State Department to fast track installing a US Consulate in NK.
Not this time. President Trump didn't bow. (semi-Sarcasm)
>Who initiated this? A businessman and not a weasel politician. I’ve been saying such for years. Get the lawyer politicians out and things will get done by businessmen.<
That’s true.
If you look at the amazing economic and cultural progress that other countries have made you will see a consistent pattern: The ruling people and factions of these countries are people who are trained and educated way outside of the social sciences and law schools.
Look at the leadership and administration of Singapore for example. Or the Chinese president (or whatever his political title is) who stayed with a mid-west farm family while he was in the US literally studying pig farming.
Businessmen and other practical people make the best leadership in an industrial economy. It’s called real life and real life support.
And never forget, you progressive feminists still in mourning for poor abused Hillary, that the most successful female leadership was Margaret Thatcher, who graduated as a chemistry major from cambrdidge.
Of course on the other hand, we have Angela Merkal who has a PH.D in physics from an old East German university.
Yes, by all means, get rid of the law degree professional politicians and watch America make itself great again
Let’s hope the transition is that orderly
