HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - President Donald Trump will stop in Hawaii after returning from his historic summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, the White House announced Monday.

Trump is scheduled to depart from Singapore on Tuesday night, and will visit a military base on Guam before arriving on Oahu.

The president is expected to arrive in the islands on Tuesday afternoon and is not expected to leave Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam.

The White House said he plans to meet with U.S. troops briefly before heading back to Washington, D.C.

Details on his full itinerary have not yet been released.

I’m on the big island right now and talked to a guy yesterday who told me that if people’s houses burned instead of simply getting overrun with lava then the insurance would kick in. But there is no insurance for lava destroying your house.

The volcano’s effect has been minimal to the island except for vog. We have had some vog in the Waikoloa area where I am but not a lot. But the news has been bad enough that the local businesses are suffering.

Hawaiians need to stop building towns on lava fields.

Opening viewing points might shore up Big Island’s visitor industry - June 11, 2018

While state and county officials have stepped up efforts to get residents out of Lower Puna’s lava-ridden neighborhoods, tourism officials are pushing them to create viewing areas where tourists can watch the dramatic fissure action. . . .

Visited the USS Arizona Memorial (from the Pearl Harbor attack), and met with Pacific Command's military leadership.

I don’t expect him to do the flyover.

I will be disappointed in him if he doesn't at least do a flyover of the volcano area.

I think the stops serve a couple of purposes.

1. How often is Trump out west, close to troops in Guam and Hawaii? It builds goodwill with the troops to stop by when he’s near.

2. It shows—immediately after the negotiations—that he feels safe stopping at two military bases within striking distance of North Korean missiles. It’s a direct sign to both Kim and the rest of the world that he trusts Kim and the negotiations were productive.

Good move, IMO.

Certainly POTUS has earned a break. And Hawaii is beautiful. But given the political atmosphere, I can't help but to feel the lion is entering jackal territory. Situational awareness, Prez, be safe!

40% Trump in my district, to the unbelievable rage of loacl liberals.

So many vote D just because that is what everyone else does, they have no clear idea why.

That 30-40% would certainly love to see the President and give the finger to the irate liberals.

There are Trump voters in Hawaii who don’t publicly admit their support for him because they don’t want their windshields broken or tires flattened.

The real hate and rage is almost entirely from older whites. You virtually never saw an Obunga sticker on a car driven by other than some aging white. Same with the very few Beast stickers. This is in my area at least.

When I lived in Honolulu, it was great fun to see what the driver of a car with an Obunga sticker looked like. Vast majority were angry looking older white women. No wonder they went insane when Trump beat the Beast.

Did he ever really ‘live’ there gunner?

In 2007 Hawaiian freepers were on his tail. No one had known or remembered him. No one at the bank knew that the ‘granny’ had grandkids, much less that they lived with her. No neighbors recall him. Only a very few select persons place him at the Punahou, and for what periods of time is disputable.

Correct me if I’m misinformed.

Unless it’s to prove Obama isn’t a US citizen, this is a waste of time.

To a NeverTrumper, it most certainly is a waste of time. To the rest of us, it shows

Given your statement, I'm not sure from which side of the fence you're posting.

Actually I thought of an old joke about a guy catching a plane from New Orleans to Los Angeles, Calif - took off at 1 landed at 102- they asked if he wanted a ticket, he said in a Cajun accent - no but I do want to watch that son-of-a-gun take off.
