A summit that may pop fear in North Korea
The Christian Science Monitor ^ | June 12, 2018 | The Christian Science Monitor Editorial Board

As the world’s most repressive tyranny, the North Korean regime has survived by keeping its people in the dark, dampening their expectations, and instilling a fear of external enemies, especially the United States. Yet that survival strategy was hardly at work during the historic summit in Singapore on Tuesday between North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and President Trump.

North Korea’s official media told the nation of 26 million that the talks could bring a “permanent and durable peace mechanism” with the US. TV images showed Mr. Kim touring Singapore, where “every building is stylish,” the streets are clean, and the country’s “good” development is worth following. Even the fact that the “supreme leader” had visited a country other than neighboring China must have created a mood of anticipation among North Koreans.

This summit was about more than denuclearization. In fact, the agreement to rid the Korean Peninsula of nuclear weapons will require Kim to allow a freedom that its people do not enjoy. Inspectors will need to travel the country without restriction and under no surveillance. To assure a verifiable and irreversible elimination of weapons, every building and mountain must be opened.

North Koreans are not used to challenging their leaders. Yet now foreigners could be roaming the country demanding access. The bubble of isolation and fear could be burst.

In addition, Kim wants to open his economy....

How many dime store generals, political scientists and psychologists are the media going to pull out of their pockets to bash Trump on this?

All of them.

that is exactly what happened, except the prison camps. “we will have peace in our time”. Chamberlain gave away the store including Czechoslovakia. He was not of the same cut of DJ Trump.

But I agree with you. The pundits want everything right now, which is of course impossible. Incremental steps. Develop trust and work together for a change in direction.

I am so glad DJ Trump is our President and not any of these squishy sycophants running their mouths off with fuming dribble. winning!!!

Next is middle east peace, then do something with s. America and Mexico.

It’s that type of example and say, that of David’s commission of murder, wherein God granted remission of their capital sins, that seems to make salvation so accessable.

From the article

I would say that is a yes

Saul of Tarsus (later St. Paul) is NOT an Apostle, or one of the twelve eye-witnesses chosen by Christ. After his epiphany on the road to Damascus, Paul became an evangelist for Christ to 1st Century Jews and Gentiles alike in the Near East.

Most of what we know of St. Paul is taken from his epistles, or letters, to early Christian communities, and the Acts.

I suppose you can call him a disciple or an evangelist. But technically, he is not an Apostle. He was not one of the Chosen and had no contact with with Our Lord during His earthly Ministry.

I watched the video several times that POTUS showed Kim and his team. I get the feeling that Kim has caught the vision. His remarks that he and his team had overcome old prejudices and mental blockages to GET TO Singapore, tell me that Pompeo and Trump have been counseling him for months.

They also probably explained that as long as you look like you are open to “reform”, and let Western corporations make deals with you that are very profitable, the West seems to completely overlook any human rights abuses you are committing.

Brilliant. So well put and sadly so true.

The North Koreans will eat better but still will live in a police state sustained with Western investment.

So will they be better or worse off?

Hard to say like I said they’ll eat better but one slip of the tongue or the slightest suspicion of lack of loyalty and it’s off to the living hell of Kim’s concentration camps.

I for one think not being starving all the time is an improvement. Besides there is no evidence that he will continue his evil ways except past practice. I am a little more optimistic after all Queen Elizabeth is no King Henry.
