Thanks for this thread.

I have been on a quest for over a year involving ignorant folks that dis-respect the United States Flag. Their virtue signalling makes them look the fool.

The American Legion provided the inertia to get the initial US Flag Code officially adopted.
https://www.legion.org/flag/code

The wikipedia on the US Flag Code is quite acceptable IMneverHO.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Flag_Code

It highlights some important details regarding respect and links to a very reader friendly website at Cornell Law School.
https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/4/chapter-1

The respect section
https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/4/8

For the rest of my post section 8 item (g) and (i) apply.

(g) The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature.

(i) The flag should never be used for advertising purposes in any manner whatsoever. It should not be embroidered on such articles as cushions or handkerchiefs and the like, printed or otherwise impressed on paper napkins or boxes or anything that is designed for temporary use and discard. Advertising signs should not be fastened to a staff or halyard from which the flag is flown.

In my book the no advertising on the US Flag is non-negotiable and I refuse to be censored/silenced.

Farmers Business Network is the most blatant example I know of.
They replaced the stars in the ‘union’ with the words “Farmers First” and they print their website URL on top of the 13th stripe.
Then they pay popular Youtube farmers, from northern states that begin with the letter “M”, to propagate their corruption to millions of viewers. ‘mn mf’ is the worst because he shamelessly doubled down when I pointed out his dis-respect. I may have figuratively called his ‘baby’ ugly, LOL. they ig nant and stubborn!
(spit)

(but wait, there’s more!)
I had the idea to purchase for them suitable replacements to prove I was not ‘just’ being an asshole.
I did not offer to purchase their obligation to FBN though.LOL

That opened ANOTHER can of worms.
I have purchased and returned (in 2022) 5 US Flags because they were not suitable for display.
3 of them were vacuume sealed causing permanent creases and distortions and made out of super thin materials showing signs of wear from being put into their sealed packages.
2 of them had advertising(the manufacturers website) printed on them. All were from different vendors/manufacturers all claim compliance with the rules.

ALL OF THEM WERE(allegedly) MADE IN THE USA by a member of the Flag Manufacturers Association of America(FMAA). One of the FMAA’s propaganda items is adherance to the US Flag Code.

I have been unsuccessful in contacting a human who can kind of demonstrate that they have even heard what I said.

Fear not dear reader, I am not out of ideas and do have success advocating respect for our United States Flag.
If naming and shaming is not effective that just means I have not found the solution, yet.

I currently await backordered United States Flags from American Legion. They wrote the “Rules” so I rolled the dice yet again.
They never mention FMAA but do claim local manufacture.
I like to have a spare so I can just gift one to a neighbor when I notice a flag needing retired after faithful service.
I like to see them smile when the replacement is a good product.

I’ll take this opportunity to remind self and others that kindness is where I find success when advocating flag respect. I must first demonstrate respect. I have yet to find an intentional display of contempt. When I was hatched I was totally ignorant too. :-) When I am not successful sometimes I get rude and it is less than ideal when trying to persuade someone to display respect.

I also rarely mention very common slightly ignorant displays. For example unlighted after sunset. That cures itself every morning.
Horizontal displays are actually contraindicated too but I will not dispute over a hundred men in uniform with a football field sized Flag.

Now for some sad ironic almost humor.
The District of Columbia used to be one of the places where the Flag Code was adopted as Law and compliance was required.
Today some clown decided on their own to just add another star to the union and pay(with tax dollars) minions to display it. The good news is that at least it was inclusive and not divisive, unlike the FBN corruption.

If ya hafta listen isn’t that wierd?

I’ll now contemplate treating the neighbors to a ‘few’ decibels of the Boston version of “The Star Spangled Banner”.
