N. Korea expected to take denuclearization measures within 2-3 weeks......Ex-minister

SEONGNAM, South Korea, June 14 (Yonhap) -- North Korea is expected to take measures to denuclearize within the next two to three weeks following this week's historic summit between Washington and Pyongyang in Singapore, an expert on North Korea said Thursday.

Former Unification Minister Lee Jong-seok, currently a senior researcher at the private think tank Sejong Institute, made the remark during a forum hosted by the institute in Seongnam, just south of Seoul, to analyze the outcome of the Tuesday summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

Lee also took a view that the United States, in line with the North's implementation of such measures, will come up with rudimentary steps it could take to ease economic sanctions on the North and normalize its relations with Pyongyang, expecting that Washington and Pyongyang will reveal details not included in the accord released by the two countries after the Singapore summit.

The institute's chief, Paik Hak-soon, claimed that "the concept of CVID is about how to implement complete denuclearization and thus the elements of verification and being irreversible are auxiliary concepts under CVID."

“Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. “

That’s what I love about Trump’s “cease wargames” pledge!
If NK doesn’t follow through then the wargames (which are scheduled for months away) happen and the whole thing falls apart. Very publically. Costs us nothing, KIm lose face like crazy.

Took me quite a while to fully believe that one ever after the wall fell and the Soviets imploded.

Trump is a businessman, he knows what motivates people. Lil Kim is sitting on a powderkeg. 1/3 of his country’s tiny GDP is spent on the army, and THEY have to forage for food. Remember...he was raised as one of the Anointed Ones in a Bizzaro-World place, and told the rest of the world was hostile and he was GOD. (As were his subjects.) His ruling experience was ENTIRELY against Barack Obama, who bowed like a little girl and sent money and stuff when Kim saber rattled. Kim has believed that America was the land of the guttless with deep pockets. And his “nuke program” has dropped a mountain on a couple hundred of his engineers. He needs to liquidate the IDEA of a nuke program NOW, while it has some kind of return.

Now? Trump won’t take his crap. Trump has not only backed Kim to the wall with sanctions, but demonstrated that he is ready to send Shock and Awe if he needs to.

China has always held the leash of NK. They LIKE having a buffer zone between democratic powerhouse South Korea and China. But if NK went down because of Kim’s hubris...MILLIONS of Norks roll north looking for food in China. China has shut down buying coal from NK, because China figured they had to do something.

Now when I was a kid...China was a hopelessly backwater agrarian commie state. THEN, they had an idea...what if they tried SOME capitalistic market forces? China started letting people keep SOME of what they earned for themselves. Imagine! At the time WE were becoming more socialist...China was becoming more capitalist. (NOT more democratic!)

As I said, Trump KNOWS what motivates people. The Washington insiders have for generations tried to rule America as Kim rules NK...make a law, and people will have to act the way you want them to. But Trump...he goes in armed with a iPad and a powerpoint, and shows Lil Kim what his beautiful beaches COULD look like if he stops the nukes and plays nice. Seriously...NOBODY wants to invade North Korea, Kim. You have NOTHING. Other than xenophobia and old hatreds...why HAVE an army of millions? I mean, South Korea doesn’t want your poor nation. China’s not going to invade you and take responsibility for your poor. But what if...

Listen, Kim...you want to be loved and worshiped by your people? What if you FED them? What if you were the one to open up NK to jobs? To buying power? To good healthcare? If your people are fed...you have less need to use all your money to keep a standing army to keep them in check.

Trump showed Lil Kim the only way to hang on to his dynasty is to play ball with us. He HAS NO MORE BARGAINING CHIPS. Trump has badassed Kim into a corner...then comes with a smile, like a smart businessman, and had played the right cards at the right time. Hey, Kim. Listen. I want to help you out here.

Kim gets to be worshiped. He has saved his people by “backing down Trump” Kim will say. A country with nothing but coal and hungry poor people because a beautiful resort nation (after they clear all the land mines.) Kim saves face, and ensures he gets to rule, rather than die in a bloodbath or under a cruise missile. Trump gets a Nobel Prize. And Lib heads explode. Huzzah!

”We need to set up a betting pool on this topic. I think he will denuke. He has no choice. Trump isn’t Obama and he knows it.”

I agree completely; this is for real. Trump, unlike his predecessors, used common sense and made the threat of force credible. That has changed the negotiating landscape and taken away Kim’s ability to provoke to get concessions, and then back off in time to prevent military action. With Trump his only choices are denuclearize or die. That kind of clarity tends to focus the mind.

I also think Kim is getting tired of presiding over a failed country and does want to experience what the civilized world has to offer. His grinning during the summit struck me as completely genuine, and watching him submissively follow Trump around as if he was his son told me that he is truly interested in what Trump is telling him and that he respects Trump as well. I kept getting the strong impression that “Little Rocket Man” has serious “daddy issues”, and that he subconsciously sees Trump as a strong father figure. It was utterly fascinating to watch. Never in a million years would I have expected to see what occurred at that summit.

I could be wrong, but I think Trump knows this and is using it to manipulate him, thus all of the friendly deference to Kim that so freaked the media out. As usual, Trump knows exactly what he’s doing.

Do you really think we’re going to be told the specifics of how they decide to go about denuclearizing? What we do know is the US wants control of that..with Japan and S.Korea’s co-operation. We’ve had teams before that have done this so there’s no question experienced people will be at hand to get it done.

It’s pretty much understood you have to have ground people at the sites...as well as those underground which the regime was well known to have. Last I understood there were about 100 sites between the nuclear and missile sites...along with what Chemical weapon sites are there. All that goes too.

I agree with what you have written. It was remarkable Kims expressions etc. There were distinctions obvious if one is familiar with his being at other venues.

Keep your powder dry but this was on NORK TV today. Don’t speak Korean but the images and background music and the tour of the port and actually showing the Singapore skyline at night tells me something is up. This was done for domestic NORK consumption as in to soften them up for peace.

I am starting to suspect Kim Fatty The Third does not like his job. He wants a buy out.

Kim initiated this whole deal making movement through Rodman while Obama was President. Of course Obama already had his Peace Prize so why take a risk ? So the bombmaking and missile developing went on.

Trump certainly don’t need your advice as he’s doing historically well without people like you barking from the sidelines.

That barking isn’t coming from the sidelines....it’s coming from the peanut gallery - at best.

Interview every nuclear scientist to make sure they’re legit. Then offer them jobs as dishwashers in Korean restaurants in L.A. More money than they can dream of.

He would likely be ousted in a coup, I think, if he opens it up to the extent that it will be necessarily called for the whole enchilada to be meaningful and verifiable. That’s why much if this flies in the face of all logic and precedent and is quite counterintuitive.

What specific concrete actions have they taken? Not promises they have made for future actions.

This has come further than you ever thought as you've done nothing but tell all the summit would never happened, and if it does, it's all lies, Trump and his supporters are being played as suckers and on and on daily. And you been wrong ever step of the way.

Like I told ya a month ago, all you'll be doing is continually move the goal posts ever inch of the way, while attempting to redefine Trumps success in North Korea. Ya never wanted this to happen. Why not just admit it?

.....”it will be necessarily called for the whole enchilada to be meaningful and verifiable”....

You’re replaying what is very well known by this administration and North Korea’s..... and it is ‘they’ who will determine the course of how this is to be done and the means of verifying what’s done. They DO know what they are doing or we wouldn’t have even remotely come this far.

I think possible you simply want the questions of how, when and what has been determined and until you know your unsettled about what the outcome would be.
