I agree completely; this is for real. Trump, unlike his predecessors, used common sense and made the threat of force credible. That has changed the negotiating landscape and taken away Kim’s ability to provoke to get concessions, and then back off in time to prevent military action. With Trump his only choices are denuclearize or die. That kind of clarity tends to focus the mind.

I also think Kim is getting tired of presiding over a failed country and does want to experience what the civilized world has to offer. His grinning during the summit struck me as completely genuine, and watching him submissively follow Trump around as if he was his son told me that he is truly interested in what Trump is telling him and that he respects Trump as well. I kept getting the strong impression that “Little Rocket Man” has serious “daddy issues”, and that he subconsciously sees Trump as a strong father figure. It was utterly fascinating to watch. Never in a million years would I have expected to see what occurred at that summit.

I could be wrong, but I think Trump knows this and is using it to manipulate him, thus all of the friendly deference to Kim that so freaked the media out. As usual, Trump knows exactly what he’s doing.
