Tariffs on $34 billion of U.S. goods including agricultural products, autos and aquatic goods will take effect from July 6, Xinhua reported early on Saturday, citing the commission.

China buys practically nothing from us except scrap, so this should amount to - nothing.

Is this in addition to the tariffs that China already has against American imports?

President Trump should temporarily shut down all the WalMarts in the US. That'll teach the Chicoms. Just kidding, sort of.

A tariff on fungible agricultural produce may provide a great press release, but has little practical effect.

Good, now maybe we can start making all the expensive electronics that our wonderful Capos who run the Silicon Valley companies have “outsourced” to the Chinese. And maybe we can manage to gin up a company to make those miniature Hawaiian Drink Parasols and the "back window dolls" with the springs for necks domestically.

we import 4 times as as much from china as we export. if there was a 100% trade war, we win in a walk.

also, the last thing they want to do is devalue the massive amount of our debt that they are holding. this is probably trump’s trump card. a normal politician would be afraid to play it.

Think someone should point THIS out. A couple of hours ago I looked at a GE air-conditioner, which I need (I heard summer may be coming).
On the GE(?) box was imprinted “MADE IN CHINA”.
China needs OUR business a lot more than we need THEIRS.
China, now an industrial power cannot exist on its own internal business. If needed the USA could well, and has for decades existed and profited on its INTERNAL economic activity.

Trump should order all China container ships to turn and head back to China. COSCO

NOT to be confused with Costco

“A tariff on fungible agricultural produce may provide a great press release, but has little practical effect.”

Most affected is the sweet potato farmer who schmoozed with the State Ag. Commissioner’s people to gain an invite to accompany an official ag mission to China to push china buying crops grown in said state.

The Sweet potato farmer is introduced to the chicoms and swings his own deal to sell everything he can grow. (thousands of acres)

True story.

USA should respond with a ban or limit on China’s purchases of US Treasuries.

That is the bargaining chip Trump has: China NEEDS everyone else. We don’t need China.
