U.S. decision on asylum casts a pall over immigrants fleeing gang violence
The Los Angeles Times ^ | June 16th, 2018 | By Cindy Carcamo

Rubilia Sanchez knew she had to flee her hometown of Tecun Uman after gangs repeatedly threatened to rape and murder her.

So she took her four daughters and made the familiar, dangerous trek out of Guatemala, through Mexico and into the United States, where she requested asylum. After waiting for four years, she finally got a date to plead her case to U.S. officials: July 26.

But now, her already hazy future — and that of others fleeing gang violence in Latin America — has been thrust into greater uncertainty.

Atty. Gen. Jeff Sessions ordered immigration judges to stop granting asylum to virtually all those claiming to be victims of domestic or gang violence, a move that could block tens of thousands of people from gaining permanent entry into the U.S.

The gang violence that has raged in El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras grew partly from American streets. The most powerful gangs in Central America, MS-13 and 18th Street, were born in Los Angeles a generation ago during the height of the city’s gang wars.

As gang violence exploded in the U.S., authorities responded in the 1990s by deporting gang members en masse to Central America. Experts said the move heightened violence in those countries and prompted waves of terrorized residents to seek refuge in the United States.

Alex Sanchez, a former MS-13 gang member and the executive director of gang prevention and intervention organization Homies Unidos in L.A., said Sessions’ move essentially closes a door to victims of gangs that the U.S. government helped create through past policies.

A delegation of democrat volunteers to be sent to the various countries refugees are fleeing.
These volunteers can work with the vicious gang members or cutthroat, corrupt governments teaching the virtues of diversity.

The Los Angeles Times, here, demonstrates another sympathy pitch to accomplish Misdirection: Familiar Leftist Tactic. Here it is about fears of gang violence; but it serves exactly the same deceptive purpose as the crocodile tears over chldren being separated from their parents

Again the issue is our right to preserve our borders, heritage & homelands. It is loathsome to seek to change the subject in this manner, when anyone reflects on how critical is that issue.

Marines should invade and establish mititary government that destroys the gangs and orhers causing the good people to flee

The illegals here can then be returned to peaceful homes

Why didn’t that wonderful, caring country of Mexico let her stop the dangerous trek and settle down there? The way they lecture the US, that would be the proper thing for them to do. /sarc

“Liberals say America has a horrific rape culture, horribly oppresses people of color, especially women of color. That we have a land flooded with guns and violence, we can’t even keep children safe in schools.

If this is true, then “domestic violence” and fear of gang violence isn’t a valid basis for asylum, because we’re the worst in the world according to liberals.”

GREAT POST!

Why don’t they ever go SOUTH to Costa Rica / Panama?

Those countries don't give them welfare money, free housing, free medical care, free education.

As soon as she stepped on Mexican soil, she was safe, and lost any claim to asylum.

No mention of the 4 girls father(s). Where was he/them?

The better approach is to keep the focus on why we do not want those who do not even respect us, dictating a change in our demographics. Do not make the mistake of getting into a tangential argument defined by those seeking to distract attention from the real issue.

“The new policy is that the host government must be complicit in systematic persecution of a particular group”

The old (Obama) policy was that any problem, in any neighborhood, or any household, anywhere on Earth, gave people the right to come to America, claim asylum, and be eligible for public welfare benefits - at least for a few years.

Deliberate sabotage.

Fleeing gang violence to flee to gang violence. What is the difference? Either place they are faced with gang violence, but the difference is here, they are more likely to join in the gang violence.

asylum must be requested at the FIRST border crossed... NOT the country with the best welfare system

Mouthing the asylum buzzwords that they have been coached to do by Coyotes and Leftist organizations, has been the free pass that illegals have used to walk right in to the USA and get right on the dole. It is why we have catch and release.

That is how the caravan that was in the news coming up through Mexico, ultimately got it in to the USA.

Closing that loophole is huge. There is not just another story they can replace for the old one - they must be from a country that is recognized to conduct Government repression of a specific group.

I don’t believe that Mexico or any country in Central America qualifies, so they would not be allowed to walk through the gates anymore. No more automatic full package of Government provided lodging, food, transportation, medical or education benefits.

They used to just walk to the border station, repeat the passphrases, drop their rucksack and put their feet up.

Now it will largely require illegal crossing, identity theft, or living off the books - a lot more skills and effort.

And Mexico has no asylum laws? Why only the US?

I have no idea how the U. S. got to be the refuge for everyone with problems over seas.

Go to the embassy. File the proper documents. Wait like everyone else.

End of story.

We have a quota, and if you can meet the numbers, then welcome. Otherwise, seek out another nation of saps willing to support you for the rest of your life. We aren’t.

EVERYONE knows these new illegal aliens are only seeking asylum because they are from sh1thole countries.
(A gang member in the town means “I’m a refugee just like Jews in Nazi Germany.” NOT!)

By international ‘law’ they are required to seek refugee status in the First country they enter which is MEXICO. Instead, they illegally continue through to the big prize, life in the United States.

Fix the gang violence instead of letting it chase you to our country. Where are you going to run to when it follows you here?

Just wonder if it would be more cost-effective to invade the Central American $hit hole countries and clean them out permanently? Leaving a bunch of dead MS-13 types might be a better solution, since we can’t kill them here.
