You can't boil the frog too quickly, he notices. And the fact that those policies have a consensus within the ruling class does not mean that consensus is either as widespread or as permanent among the voters as it is among the "leaders" - of course it's a power question, and the question is not simply who is to be master. The question is whether the policies are good or not based on results.
Those haven't been good, and the media declaring them good has reached its expiry date. That is a problem we're having in the States too - when the media sign on to full support of a set of policies that aren't showing good results, not only does the party lose power but their media allies lose theirs as well. A lot of people are very unhappy about that, there and here, because it was never supposed to happen.
I was thinking more along the lines of getting along with Trump. As hard as it is to believe, the next person might be worse in that respect.
The Trump curse is about to strike again.

The biter childless bag of flab and treason known as Angela Merkel cannot be out of office soon enough. In a just world she would end her days in a prison cell. Will settle, however, for her blood-stained claws being pried from the levers of power.
A little Germany Nationalism may go a long way if we are lucky .
