WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump's policy of taking immigrant children from their parents at the southern border may have been designed to push Democrats to the negotiating table in Congress — but it could end up costing Republican lawmakers.
"Democrats can fix their forced family breakup at the Border by working with Republicans on new legislation, for a change!" Trump wrote on Twitter Saturday. "This is why we need more Republicans elected in November."
But the policy, which has separated some 2,000 children from their parents in just six weeks, could have the opposite effect as anxious Republican lawmakers fear voters may see their party as heartless on immigration and punish them for it in November. And Democrats are driving home that message in emails to supporters and by organizing trips to detention centers.
The issue will "absolutely" be a factor in the midterm elections this fall, said a GOP operative working to elect Republicans to Congress, adding that "the images are devastating" for the GOP.

Breaking up what families?
There’s no evidence that their parents are in the US, or Canada, or wherever. They’ve built up an entire story which has no facts.
I like breaking families up at the border. It’s a good idea. The parents are criminals. You think it’s good for kids to be around criminals?
Typical MSM. They create a story, and yes they created it. They create it to try to influence the voters and tug at their emotions. When that fails, they head for the soft targets. They go for the GOPe with the inevitable FakeNews stories about how the voters really really do care about the story the MSM has created.
The old Democrats tried to hide the illegal immigration issue for years because they knew it would burn them big time.
The current senile crop of Democrats (Pelosi, Feinstein etal) are too stupid to remember why they stayed away from the issue.

Not to put too fine of a point on it, but that is pretty close to why the American people voted for Trump. If we wanted tenderness for the criminal immigrant wave, we woulda voted for JEB, Hillary, Rubio, or any of the others.
Those children should be runited with their parents as quickly as possible - back on the south side of the border.
It is VERY important to download and retain ALL video and photographic evidence of the migrant child detention during the Obama administration.
The MSM is doing a great job at pretending this is only a Trump issue.

This entire story about GOP “fears” is based on unnamed “GOP operative working to elect Republicans to Congress.” Which NeverTrumper or member of the Chamber of Commerce would that be?

I still maintain that rejecting them (Wall or otherwise) is not only the best course, but bypasses this separation issue completely.
But, I will add a suggestion. Since our government does statistical studies of almost anything imaginable, how come we haven't seen statistical studies of DNA comparisons showing how many of these claimed families are actually related? Anyone claiming familial exemptions who isn't related is a child trafficker.
What are the statistics of those claiming to be related actually being so? What level of fraud is acceptable here--10%...20%... 50%... 90% (So long as one child is helped)?
DNA testing would have another benefit, since there has been so much welfare fraud and crime--it would provide a real biometric identity check on any illegal alien.
I am well aware of the "be careful what you aspect here"--it could then be extended to existing citizens. But, that's an argument for another day.

ABC Radio "News" literally called the president a liar yesterday for saying the Democrats were at fault for the border issue.
The reporter was nothing short of a full-fledged DNC spokeswoman.
