BLUE WAVE? NOT WHERE I LIVE
Powerline ^ | June 17, 2018 | JOHN HINDERAKER

Talk of a “blue wave” has receded as the GOP has drawn more or less even on the generic preference poll, and Republican voter enthusiasm has continued to mount. For what it’s worth, here in Minnesota I think we will see a red tide. Republicans will almost certainly score a pickup in the state’s 8th Congressional district Then there are the Senate races. Minnesota is in the flukish position of having both its Senate seats up, as a result of Al Franken’s resignation. Amy Klobuchar is not in serious danger, but Franken’s former seat gives Republicans a good chance for a pickup.

It is noteworthy that the AP reporter, presumably a Democrat, finds nothing bad to say about Housley. She is, indeed, an energetic campaigner: her excellent social media accounts show her campaigning, seemingly, in a different town every day. And she is, I think, impossible to dislike. She will be hard for the Democrats to lay a glove on. Her style and her record are as mild as–to contrast her with another Minnesota woman–Michele Bachmann’s were red-hot.

It also can’t hurt that Karin’s husband, Phil Housley, is likely the best hockey player ever produced in Minnesota. Her name is an automatic door-opener in the state, and, along with her personality, may make it hard for the Democrats to attack her with their usual viciousness. Tina Smith’s name, on the other hand, is…Smith. Despite having served as Lieutenant Governor under Dayton, she has little public profile.

I have been impressed by Karin Housley’s campaign so far. She is disciplined as well as energetic. I think she is going to win. A GOP pickup in Minnesota would pretty much put to rest any Democratic hopes of capturing the Senate this year. If you want to help Housley’s campaign, go here.

Karin should win Duluth - and her husband is well-liked.

Plus Trump is coming to campaign there. I agree Franken’s seat looks like a prime GOP pickup in Minnesota.

The fight is anything but far from over at this point. There’s still a lot of potential for events that can affect peoples attitude in November.

Just saying 5 months means a lot of things can still happen. One point, I don’t think the GOP wants to win frankly. individual candidates yes, GOP party, no.

They want to get off the train. Even though primaries are proving Trump still wins.

I think it will be large blue wave in November because the Trump base stays home. There is nothing for them to vote for. Both parties are anti-Trump and pro amnesty.

If the GOP wins, it will be Trump who dragged it kicking and screaming across the finish line.

The GOP will win with pro-Trump candidates.

The one caveat; they can't be batshit crazy, outspoken white supremacists, fire and brimstone fundies, have a penchant for dating underage teenagers, or any combination of the above.

Give us normal, lucid, reasonable, pro-Trump candidates running on a MAGA message and we will win!

As an ex canadian, hockey guy, the name Housley is synonymous to winner and grit. If Housley ran, he would win himself.

The GOP in MN needs to run ads showing what the Crazy Left is proposing in other parts of the country.
Gun confiscation and Open Borders

You have it backwards.

The Trump base will remain fired up and they want to keep the Trump momentum going. The Trump base understands what is at stake and will not stay home.

Any state that can elect Jesse Ventura and Al Franken will always be suspect.

You could have said the same thing in 2016, but it didn’t happen. In fact, almost every Republican who won in the Senate and House won his/her state or district by a larger margin than Trump did.

"Trump base stays home. There is nothing for them to vote for."

Does a Supreme Court nomination mean anything?

Roll tide! I honestly think Trumpism is going to sweep America. What do the Democrats offer. Nancy Pelosi? Higher taxes? More illegal immigration? The results speak for themselves. Americans aren’t dumb. (well not in the heartland anyway). Trump voters are happy. Never Trumpers are re-evaluating. Democrats are without ammunition. Roll tide.

You must have forgotten how some of the crazier Dem Reps have talked about impeaching Trump if they win back the House. That alone should be a good reason to vote GOP—not to mention that Trump’s legislative agenda would be 100% dead in the water with a Dem win, while it’s still going forward in fits and spurts now.

I have no doubt Trump will be fighting to get the GOP candidates over the line in many tight races later this year too. A lot of his supporters will listen to him. What Trump needs is more GOP Senators and Congressmen, not fewer. The tiny majority in the Senate especially meant that a couple moderates in the party have inordinate power. That can change if we get a few extra Senators in the fall.
