DHS secretary defends Trump administration's migrant policies

Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen defended the Trump administration's migrant policies amid growing public backlash in a series of tweets on Sunday, saying the administration does not have a policy of separating families at the border.

"This misreporting by Members, press & advocacy groups must stop. It is irresponsible and unproductive. As I have said many times before, if you are seeking asylum for your family, there is no reason to break the law and illegally cross between ports of entry," Nielsen said.

"You are not breaking the law by seeking asylum at a port of entry," she continued. "For those seeking asylum at ports of entry, we have continued the policy from previous Administrations and will only separate if the child is in danger, there is no custodial relationship between 'family' members, or if the adult has broken a law."

The most aggravating thing about the incessant attacks on Trump from the insane left in this country is that his people almost NEVER defend him. It’s an absolute outrage.

The leftist hysteria over this whole thing is just another example of massive left-wing hypocrisy, double standards, manipulative lies, and, of course, their lack of unchanging principles or willingness to honestly debate issues. Why aren’t they calling Obama Hitler for his “concentration camps” for children? That makes it clear this is just political posturing because they are afraid about the mid-terms. They are hoping that enough people react emotionally and never question whether they are being fed B.S.

And that’s why people like me are around, to demonstrate this is and has been a huge problem for years.

No one can resolve this to everyone’s satisfaction

And they should come out why? How do you defend lies?

And someone stepping to the mike only gives the media an additional target.

The Cabinet is generally behind the scenes doing their job.

The left does have an unchanging principle; to win and anything necessary to that end is justified. In history the winners are always right

Nielsen is exactly right.

We have ports of entry all along the border. Any real “asylum seeker” can march straight up to the agent at the turnstile and request asylum. He has procedures that will kick in right then and there.

The people trying to game the system by running through arroyos and ravines are breaking our laws and they are not true refugees, just scofflaws who are using the asylum claim as a get out of jail card if they don’t make it through.

The President is ALONE. This is unprecedented. All that he really has are those that voted for him and I will admit that we are way too timid.

Until five weeks ago, Trump’s border policy was “Catch and Release.”

Very few Conservatives are aware of that.

Trump suddenly stopped Catch and Release after the “Mexico Refugee Caravan” episode, because a senior executive at USCIS revealed that at least 75% of illegal border jumpers only receive a misdemeanor citation and a court date, and they are then released on their own recognizance.

Before Trump stopped Catch and Release, children and parents were separated only if the child was endangered, or if a family relationship could not be proved, or if the parents had warrants or were engaged in a criminal action.

Every other family unit got Catch and Release.

Now - ALL illegal parents are being arrested.

USA immigration law does not allow children to be confined in a prison setting.

However, since ALL their parents are now detained in a prison setting, children and parents must be separated.

Re: “The President is ALONE.”

I agree.

But Trump is the guy who hired all these people who won’t defend him!

Trump has some truly brilliant political skills.

However, Trump has zero government administration skills, and he still does not understand that the single minded goal of the Political Left is to totally destroy Conservatives and the Republican Party.

No. It’s gross media propaganda.
