Donald Trump took to Twitter on Monday to fire off two tweets about the “tenuous” state of politics in Germany. Not for the first time, he showed his ignorance of developments in German society.
Trump waded into the political crisis facing Chancellor Angela Merkel, declaring that the German people were “turning against their leadership” over immigration. “We don’t want what is happening with immigration in Europe to happen with us!” he said in a pair of tweets. “The people of Germany are turning against their leadership as migration is rocking the already tenuous Berlin coalition,” he said, adding that “crime in Germany is way up. Big mistake made all over Europe in allowing millions of people in who have so strongly and violently changed their culture!” […]
… [H]is assertion that “crime in Germany is way up” is simply not true. Crime figures for last year show a drastic drop in reported crime. Most types of crime — including violent crime — fell in 2017, meaning it was actually the year with the least reported crime in three decades.
While reported crime is a far from reliable way of calculating actual crime, it is also the only method that currently exists of tracking nationwide crime trends.
Trump also asserts that refugees have “strongly and violently” changed German culture. What exactly he means by this is not clear. German beer consumption has dropped in recent years but we haven’t seen any refugees ripping Maßes from their hands at Oktoberfest. Last time we checked, they were also still fans of Bratwurst and bad pop music. […]

That was a good show when Carolla and Kimmel were running it.
The German database and interpretation....would lead you in circles.
If a hundred break-in’s occur, unless you solve them...none of them can be attributed to a German, or a non-German.
If you had a hundred pickpocket episodes reported to one city police department in a week...unless they solve or arrest some guy, you can’t attribute that to a German or a non-German.
In rural areas, no one is seeing an escalation, and Germans will tell you that. If there is an escalation, it’s urbanized areas which see this behavior.
Car theft? It goes to Russian, Ukraine, Bulgarian mafia gangs...who drive the car east across the border.
Last year, they hyped up an unusual crime spree in far eastern Germany....cattle theft. Someone was going around about every two to three weeks and stealing a truckload of cattle. There were probably forty of these episodes over a 18 month period. No one ever caught.
If anyone wants heroin, LSD, or the top twenty drugs, it takes three minutes in Frankfurt, Berlin or Koln to buy it. I’ll draw you a 300-ft circle on the map. 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Cops don’t care anymore to mess around with enforcement. The majority of dealers? Mostly folks who came in within the past five years.
Used to frequent Bill’s hole in the wall bar on Wilshire many years ago. Nothing else like it, and great entertainment, although the beer was heavily watered down. Once he challenged me to chug a beer against him (”automatic challenge!”). He pounded three or four mugs before I could finish one. He used to do the same standing on his head. Amazing he lived as long as he did. Pretty good piano player, too.
More people need to report crimes.
Democrats care more for Illegal aliens then they do for us.
