People have been known to die in solitary.
March 9, 1998 NYT said James B. McDougall ,one of the Clintons former allies who turned against him was in solitary and proclaimed he was going to lift off the burden of lying from himself and tell all he knew the next day. Some reported he had an injection of a heart destroying medication that killed him before morning. NYT merely said his loss was a blow to prosecutors who needed him to corroborate new evidence in the main Whitewater case.

I saw one story, I don’t remember the details, but one witness was put in protective custody by being put in solitary in a max security prison. He had a personal alarm to notify if somebody were to try anything. I saw on the video a very large man entering the room and start beating this guy. The witness managed to get to the alarm and he was hitting for all he was worth, but nobody came to his rescue and he got beaten to death.
