Where’s the point where GOP and Democrats merged into the Uni-Party? 1986 with McCain’s election? Or was it earlier?
That was when they elected a prominent Democrat in an R jersey, but I would date the merger to the election of GHW Bush.
He put the existing Deep State on steroids.

McGovern’s revolution turned the Democrat Party to the hard left. The Scoop Jackson wing (liberal hawks/neo-cons) migrated to the GOP.
Since they’ve always been much better at politics than Republicans, the Democrat expatriates have gradually taken control of the party levers.
And here we are.
