That peace is unlikely to return to Lewiston anytime soon. In response to the unrest, Lewiston Mayor Shane Bouchard is full of the usual politically correct doubletalk:
Kennedy Park is a large common space in the middle of some of the poorest census tracts in the Northeast. When you have large, diverse groups of people in the same place you are bound to have incidents. Lewiston is no different in that respect than any other medium to large city, except that Lewiston’s violent crime rate is one of the lowest in Maine.
It’s not going to stay low for much longer.
But Bouchard is full of hope. Referring to the new Somali Muslim migrant residents of Lewiston in the most delicate and indirect manner possible, he said: “Our community resource officers are reaching out to the leaders in our new Mainer community. While we are fighting a cultural barrier, outreach to these groups has been successful in the past, and we are hopeful we can make some progress.”

He is absolutely correct. The park is like Black Hawk down. I parked my car next to the part at 4pm in the afternoon, started walking up the street with my camera bag and noticed there were 5 or 6 somalies looking at me and they decided to follow me in an aggressive manner. Thankfully I was only 2 blocks from my destination but the feeling of danger and being outnumbered was in full force. A few minutes later I found myself extremely angry, this was my country and I had to fear for my life with the only reason being that I was white. The laws do not apply to them, they get away with most everything, play dumb, pretend they don’t speak English, and are extremely combative. As white Americans our limited rights are on public display for all to see, slowly eroded, one step at a time.
If you want your town to be like that again, you are going to have to be willing to do what the men that built that town did. You are going to have to kill for it.
