Austin City Council members to get a firsthand glance at Tornillo’s ‘tent city’

El Paso — Outfitted with his Canon camera and a telephoto lens, Austin Mayor Steve Adler got his first look at the burgeoning “tent city” of Tornillo on Wednesday evening.

The brief glance came a day ahead of a scheduled protest at the Tornillo port of call along the Mexican border, where Adler, nearly the entire Austin City Council and mayors from across the nation will protest the practice of separating immigrant children from their family members who illegally cross the U.S. border.

On Wednesday, President Donald Trump signed an executive order to end the separations — part of his administration’s “zero tolerance” immigration policy — but it was unclear how his order might affect the tent city that has been erected at the border crossing. The site has become a hotbed of protesters in recent days as bipartisan pressure grew for Trump to halt the separations.

The border control facility at Tornillo has about 360 teenage immigrants who entered the country illegally, unaccompanied by adults. Federal officials are considering expanding the tent city’s capacity to house as many as 4,000 children.

“It’s still sad even if they stop separating all those kids,” Adler said, standing near a ditch by a chain-link fence that secures hundreds of immigrant youths in Tornillo.

Austin City Council Member Sabino “Pio” Renteria joined the mayor at the site Wednesday, taking his own cellphone photos of the facility even as border security drew near.

“It’s just amazing that they go to all this damn trouble,” Renteria said.

Soon the Left will conduct polling of its various other cults and find them demoralized that so much energy is being spent on one segment of the Democratic theft machine.

Trump will keep this stirred up till the overwrought kooks are begging to move on to some fresh political theatre that might include them.

Austin Mayor Steve Adler:

“Steve Adler was born to a Jewish family and first lived in Washington, DC and grew up in Kensington, Maryland. His father was a World War II veteran with the U.S. Navy who later became a film editor with CBS News. His mother was a homemaker.”

So what a you have here is another Secular Progressive Capo who “migrated” from Washington DC to Texas. We got Adam Schiff here in CA from Taxachusetts, you Texans got this POS.

He and most of the city council could walk off a cliff and not be missed.

No doubt a Democratic mayor of Austin. Does he, or do the media, have no idea whatsoever of the privacy issues involved in photographing and video/audio recording minors in custody? WTF?

Austin really isn’t Texas, it’s Silicon Valley with a little horse $hit thrown in for good measure.
It used to be that when I traveled to Texas (mostly Austin) and turned on the TV, the “news readers” sounded like they were Texans. But that is a thing of the past too. The good places to live in America have all had “migrants” from the Northeastern States show up, having crapped up the nests where they were born in, and were seeking a new place to foul!

They don't care about the children or the "illegal aliens" they shed alligator tears for. It's all about elections and that is who they are looking for: more voters.

Austin is a sanctuary city. Yes, dominated by DemonRat pols from all over the country and re-elected with regularity by every legal and otherwise in their community. We see unattended minors in the enclosure; they see future voters and money in their pockets. That's why they want open borders, their citizens and communities be damned.

"...But the Lone Star State isn’t homogeneous in that regard, with pockets of resistance popping up here and there. One of those places is Austin, which this month decided that simply being a sanctuary city wasn’t good enough for them. No, they’re now declaring themselves to be a “freedom city.”.."

Since when did that ever matter to the left? Just two days ago they were caging kids on the street in Dallas and making propaganda videos out of it.

Looks like what our troops in Iraq initially lived in. If it is good enough for our soldiers, it is damn well good enough for illegal immigrant criminals.

Absolutely agreed. I’m an East Texan originally, but am down here for work. It’s about time to try Houston or Dallas (which aren’t much better) just to get out of this garbage.
