I thought most all states let you renew by mail. The backwards Southern State I live in lets you.

PA isn't exactly on the cutting edge of progress but you can renew on line...only reason to go to a DMV is for the picture-taking. Takes about 15 minutes every four years.

The first time you get a Real-ID compliant license it might be longer. You have to bring a birth certificate and other “documentation.”

That being said, when I got my first Texas license in Lamar County this year, it took about a half-hour. :)

To get a "Real ID" one must present a birth certificate (or US Passport),your Social Security card,and two pieces of mail (telephone bill,gas bill,etc) to prove citizenship,your social security number and your actual residence.I believe that those are Federal requirements,not state.
