I would completely agree with that. I think Manafort is and was an extremely skilled if not diabolical operator, and that functionality, almost what you’d call a vicious bastard, was badly needed by Trump at the time.
Now the question should be asked, “is such a person to be trusted with the checkbook”?
Ehhh, probably not. OK, he did not have authority over the checkbook directly, but his proven ability to extract money via redirection of remittances is or probably should have been known, or suspected.
I certainly take your point about his military-grade organizational skill. At the time, Trump needed the vicious bastard and maybe was not able to conduct the background check that was probably called for. They were in full on chaos at the beginning there.
