Ferry commuters were stunned to see a man in a suit paddleboarding across the Hudson River Thursday morning
The man, Scott Holt, tells News 4 he was running late for a meeting so he decided to hop on his paddleboard from Jersey City
He made it across in 30 minutes, but was met by a confused cop and an angry ferry captain, he says
Sure, it's common in New York City to see men in suits commuting on the subway or in taxis -- but on a paddleboard across the Hudson River? That may be a first.
Eunice Rivers was taking the ferry to work in Jersey City Thursday morning when she spotted a man paddleboarding across the Hudson River wearing a full suit, dress shoes and all. Without hesitation, she grabbed her phone to capture the odd moment on video and share it over social media.
She wasnt the only one. Many others joined in her amusement over the unusual sighting.

Why?
Another source says he’s a comedian.
This cannot be allowed. It would take money away from the state-owned ferry monopoly!
I bet he won’t be the last.
If he was going to an interview with a company I owned, he’s hired.

Obviously a Conservative...
Inspired by Michael Douglas in Falling Down. If you you can walk/swim faster, go for it.
Well, the ferry guy was concerned for him risking his life out there - those wakes from other watercraft can be very rough and come from unexpected directions.
This will be a new event for the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics.
Eveybody in Japan wears a suit.
People paddle in Maui in 20 knots of wind and 8 seas every day. Its really a stable ride once you get the hang of it!
He’s in a closed port - not open to public arrivals.
True, but a captain is responsible for the wake his vessel creates. Don’t think that this imbecile wouldn’t jump at the chance to sue the captain and the company that owned the ferry. Jackie Chiles’ eyes would roll.
It may have something to do with using a commercial waterway; years ago I remember a news story where a man swam across from Sandy Hook in NJ to NY and was charged with something like that.
I am not sure what if any legal restrictions there are, if any, about one-person recreational water vehicles crossing or plying the waters of the Hudson. I do not that New York Bay and extending therefrom on up the Hudson is a commercial waerway, with cruise ships, tourist boats, ferry boats and other commercial water vehicles.
I guess maybe the cops meeting this guy had those concerns in mind. Just guessing. Maybe at minimum permits are needed?
New Yorkers don’t mess around.
