FReeper Canteen ~ Sunday Chapel ~ You Are Special ~ 24 June 2018
Serving The Best Troops & Veterans In The World !! | The Canteen Crew

YOU ARE SPECIAL

"I don't know why I was even born," the young sailor confided! "I'm ugly. I'm not talented. I've never been what you would call smart. I don't really have any friends. And I can't seem to do anything right. I feel like I've spent my whole life letting people down. Sometimes I wonder if even God could love me!"

That conversation took place more than a decade ago, but I still remember it as if it were yesterday. That one and a lot of others over the years with the same message: "I'm no good; I'm just another loser."

Unfortunately, our society places a great premium on looking good, being popular, and being the best -- or at least being "special." Those who don't quite measure up often feel like that young sailor. Sometimes a person can spend his or her whole life trying to earn acceptance, and still end up an outsider. ... Sometimes even when others really DO care for them and want them to be part of the group! Maybe you have felt that way at times. If not, it's probable that someone you know has... or does.

Nearly two thousand years ago, the Apostle Paul described how God has made each of us special, given each person a unique combination of "gifts". It was an important message. It must have been. His letters preserve three different variations on that theme, written to three different communities. (You can read his comments in Romans 12, I Corinthians 12 and Ephesians 4.) A more recent author phrased it this way:

"You Have A Special Message To Deliver"

There is an old Jewish-Christian tradition which says:
God sends each person into this world
With a special message to deliver,
With a special song to sing for others,
With an act of love to bestow.

No one else can speak my message,
Or sing my song, or offer my act of love,
These are entrusted only to me.
According to this tradition,
The message may be spoken,
The song sung, the act of love delivered
Only to a few, or to all the folk in a small town,
Or to all the people in a large city,
Or even to all those in the whole world.

It all depends on God's unique plan for each person.
To which we might add:
The greatest gift of God, one would think,
Is the gift of life.
The greatest sin of humans, it would seem,
Would be to return that gift,
Ungrateful and unopened. Anonymous

If you're feeling down and discouraged today, there's good news. No matter what your appearance, background or position, you're one of God's unique gifts to the rest of us. God loves you, has a special purpose for you, and believes in who you can become. Lift up your heart. Despite all you may have been told, despite all you may have felt, you ARE special after all!

CAPT J. David Atwater, CHC, USN

More remodeling?

Not much dirt time this year, sad to say. I got out last weekend for some major weed control in the back with John-Man. We made good progress but much remains to be done. John-Man grilled some excellent Porterhouses for us for dinner.

Mrs. MacNessa and I celebrate 30 GLORIOUS years together this Monday. We're having our celebratory dinner tomorrow night.

Thank you, Army Bro! At this stage, every day I wake up is a great occasion, but Monday is a milestone that Mrs. MacNessa and I, with the help of our Almighty Lord, have reached through better and worse. More of the latter than I anticipated, but I often see others who have been subject to much greater burdens than we have.

I live on grateful to serve as I can in my remaining time.

Hi, radu! Golly, I got so caught up in getting that music done, I didn’t even check the new thread, and there you are!

Hope it went well at the museum today. Did you learn more about the filming that will take place? Hope you had nice weather so visitors could come see the displays. It was off the charts hot here. And again tomorrow. *fanning*

I’ve got to go very soon. I’m sleepy already and of course, I have to get up early in the morning. Ugh!

Guess I’ll see ya again tomorrow!

Howdy, LUV!

Yes, it went very well at the museum today. The guys rearranged a lot of the displays set out several new items and I wove among them touch-up cleaning the uniforms that are on display. Tackled the glass on the display cases too. Got done just as the guys called it quits for the day. They were whipped.
I’ll take the camera Wed. to get a few pix. It looks different now.

Not sure when the show will air. Military Collectors only airs every now and then, when they have several episodes finished. I did find out it isn’t on History Channel but is on American Heroes Channel and the Military Channel. I know past episodes are on YouTube.

It was a cool day, which was GREAT, but we had a couple of heavy rainfalls and that slowed things down visitors-wise. We still had several come in to check things out.

I had forgotten I’m supposed to type up something for the Republican Women’s Group and have been working on that tonight. Giving up now because I’m too tired to put it together satisfactorily. I’ll tidy it up tomorrow.

Sorry to hear it’s blazing hot down there. I hope you found something ultra-light and cool to wear to church in the morning.

I don’t know what to expect here. It was supposed to be upper 80s but was in the low 70s most of the day due to clouds and rain. Just have to wait and see, I reckon.

Hope tomorrow’s a good day for you. Catch ya tomorrow evening.
