Oklahoma conservatives’ views on medical marijuana evolving

LINDSAY, Okla. (AP) — Danny Daniels, an evangelical Christian in the rural Oklahoma town of Lindsay, is reliably conservative on just about every political issue.

The 45-year-old church pastor is anti-abortion, voted for President Donald Trump and is a member of the National Rifle Association who owns an AR-15 rifle. He also came of age during the 1980s and believed in the anti-drug mantra that labeled marijuana as a dangerous gateway drug.

But his view on marijuana changed as his pastoral work extended into hospice care and he saw patients at the end of their lives benefiting from the use of cannabis.

“Some people said I couldn’t be a pastor and support medical marijuana, but I would say most of the people I know, including the Christians I pastor, are in favor of it,” said Daniels, pastor of Better Life Community Church in downtown Lindsay, a rural agricultural and energy industry town about 50 miles (80.5 kilometers) south of Oklahoma City.

Daniels is among a growing group of traditionally conservative Republican voters in Oklahoma who have shifted their position on the topic. Their support for a medical marijuana measure on Tuesday’s ballot could ensure Oklahoma joins the growing list of states that have legalized some form of pot.

It’s the first medical marijuana state question on a ballot in 2018, and Oklahoma’s vote precedes elections on marijuana legalization later this year in Michigan and Utah. Michigan voters will decide whether to legalize recreational pot while Utah is considering medical marijuana.

Among the reddest states in the country, Oklahoma has for decades embraced a tough-on-crime philosophy that includes harsh penalties for drug crimes that has contributed to the state now leading the nation in the percentage of its population behind bars.

The medical use of dope is an absolute hoax. Totally worthless. You would be better off chugging cheap whiskey. It never cured a single human. It is just dope. It is totally illegal . State laws are completely preempted.you risk prison time.

“you risk prison time”

Nobody using medical marijuana in states that permit it will ever go to jail, much less prison.

That’s absurd.

Coming very soon to your state too, if not already there.

Take it up with your state’s voters.

I’ve seen anecdotal evidence of CBD oils having a dramatic effect on people with seizures, you may want to reconsider your “opinion” ... unless you’re a certified medical expert on the subject ...

There is nothing in cannabis that can’t be synthesized or put into a pill. And, the pill wouldn’t rot your lungs.

Take it up with the voters in your state.

It’s clearly in their purview.

The only reason to synthesize THC is so Big Pharm can patent it. You can concentrate THC in an ordinary kitchen and ingest it.

Here’s an ‘evolved’ perspective...

Decriminalize all narcotics with the exception that dealing to a minor results in a one-strike consequence... execution.

I would love to see Medical Marijuana legalized in Alabama. Actually, I would prefer all Marijuana be legalized but I know that will NEVER happen. (Thanks, Baptists!)

A few years ago, an Alabama couple moved to Colorado so their teenage daughter could have access to CBC oil to control her violent seizures. The daughter had undergone brain surgery and many pharmaceuticals.

The brain surgery and the drugs were a complete failure so the CBC oil was the last resort. The oil was very successful and, as far as I know, still is.

I have lived with an alcoholic family member and a friend who regularly smoked Marijuana. Alcohol is much more destructive and dangerous than Marijuana.

My alcoholic family member is deceased while my Marijuana smoking friend is still alive and doing very well. I don’t want to go into details on the public forum.

The drug warriors are becoming so drunk (pardon the pun) with power that their current goal is to take away all narcotic pain meds from pain patients.

After all, according to Jeff Sessions, Aspirin is the only pain med one needs.

Disgusting, fascist and sick.

This topic divides the freedom-loving conservatives from the rule-loving “conservatives” who want the nanny state involved in everything.

https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/consumer-health/in-depth/medical-marijuana/art-20137855

Studies report that marijuana has possible benefit for several conditions . . . such as:

- Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
- Anorexia due to HIV/AIDS
- Chronic pain
- Crohn’s disease
- Epilepsy or seizures
- Glaucoma, although the American Academy of Ophthalmology doesn’t recommend medical marijuana
- Multiple sclerosis or severe muscle spasms
- Nausea, vomiting or severe wasting associated with cancer treatment
- Terminal illness
- Tourette syndrome

I suspect that well over 90% of “medical” marijuana is purely recreational, but there are times when it appears to be the best medical option. High on that list would be the nausea with chemotherapy, loss of appetite with various medical treatments, and a range of terminal illnesses.

“evolving” - def: Word used exclusively by liberals to indicate trending in the direction of their degenerate morals. Usually accompanied with a smug sense of superiority.

The same leftists who go stark-raving-nuts at the sight of someone smoking a cigarette or vaping are pushing for the decriminalization of dope.

It’s easy to understand.

In general stoners and druggies are much easier to control and don’t have their heads full of crazy ideas like smaller government, sovereign borders and personal responsibility.
