He’s right. It was about the states’ rights to make laws allowing slavery.
exactly...
No first States’ Rights was the cover the Slavers used. But the only “right” in question was a right which does not exist. Slaves were slaves not because the state said they were, they were slaves because of tyranny and injustice.
There has never been a Natural Right to enslave another man.
No it wasn’t. It was about taxes. The bulk of federal revenues came from tariffs. The south was a big importer exporter and their tax dollars comprised about 70-80 of federal revenues. the north did not want to lose its tax base and fought to keep it. Most southerners did not own slaves. You are unlikely to fight over something you don’t own but you will fight over tax dollars. If you remember, it is what drove the revolution that started the whole thing. Interesting to consider that the founding fathers were upset of single digit taxes.
That is basically true from the perspective of TPTB.
I suspect for some individual soldiers on both sides it was about slavery.
Unfortunately, the proponents of slavery, the DemoKKKrats, have used their own past misdeeds to irreparably damage States’ Rights to further other misdeeds.
Yup. That’s about the size of it.
Foolish to say so in today’s eliminate of hate Whites/Anti-Confederacy, but EXTREMELY CORRECT, Civil War was over States Rights.
