I lived there (Morrison area) in my high school years in the 70s. Always thought I might want to move back. Since the Cali invasion and the ganja nonsense, I won’t bother. I’ll just fly in, ski, and get the hell back out.

Polis is a communist trust-fund dilettante

Definitely communist, but rather more than a dilettante.

His parents were "trust-fund socialists" and Polis is a classic "red-diaper baby".

Polis appears to be intent on proving something to his mother and siblings. He is strongly motivated to attain a power position to make the point. And he certainly managed to improve the fortunes of the Polis clan during his terms as a Congressman. There are stories of Jared Polis making huge and profitable day trades in the stock market while on the floor of Congress passing legislation. (That is legal for members of Congress, btw).

He wants to raise taxes, restrict firearms, give sanctuary to illegal immigrants, and impose a statewide "single-payer" health care system. He is also very anti-Military.

He is a very effective campaigner, and can make himself appear as a "sensible pro-business moderate" to the voters. He has a personal (inherited) fortune of over 80 million dollars, and has full support from the State and National Democrat party organizations.

At best, he will be very hard to beat.

His biggest weakness will be from some of his zealous (and unhinged) supporters who may give the game away by committing atrocities in his name. Polis will be smart enough to disavow such things, but it might stick to him anyway.

Stapleton might have a chance in the election. He will need to be ruthless.
