I looked up their menu. Dinner for two (entree, side, dessert and a glass of wine): $76. Adding tax and tip makes it just shy of a hundred bucks.

And for that you get the fine service standard of Taco Bell.

Ah, San Francisco....

Ah, the virtue-signalling Food section of the New York Times. The only reason I pick it up on Wednesday. I take it minimum wage hikes plus benefits have hit the restaurant scene in the purse?

The whole cook your own food restaurant thing is a scam. I think even dimwitted liberals will figure that out...maybe not!

Well, it seems you would be tipping yourself, though.

it’s evident that the forces making this one of the most expensive cities in America are subtly altering the economics of everything.

We call these “forces”... liberals

And as you leave you get a pile of human poo on the sidewalk to step in, for free.

Has SF already preemptively setup a robot tax?

I think Canada has talked seriously about it.

Haven’t had an interest in visiting S.F. in 30 yrs.

Used to go often, as its beautiful on the outside.

Once, late at night, went the wrong way on Lombard....(age 18)

San Fransisco is like New York or Washington DC, a few square miles surrounded by reality.

Sometimes they’ll stumble over reality, but they always pick themselves up and keep going...

This is the new model for lots of restaurants—even here in Atlanta—..order your food from a counter, pick it up when your name is called, and bus your own table. I don’t mind all this EXCEPT when you sign on their iPad and the EXPECT a 20% tip. They want to make you feel like a cheapskate if you don’t go along with their suggestion. Grrrr

Does the aroma of the city streets add to the ambiance of the place?

We live in a small town in western N.J. (no jokes please) It is 12 miles to the nearest large grocery store, Walmart,
Home Depot etc. I have no clue as to what these restaurants are serving. Give me a good breakfast or lunch at Uncle Bucks and I am a happy camper. I guess I am just a degenerate conservative who don’t need no stinkin lib stuff.

On the rare occasions we go out to eat....the whole idea is to be served.......so I guess if this catches on in my rural area, we won’t be eating out and spreading our small but sufficient wealth.

The effect of this is to put a good portion of the Gay community out of work....+Instead of market forces determining the value of labor they’re forcing an unrealistic value to it. This is a recipe for failure....a failure we are seeing time and again where ever this is tried.

It’s ironic that the people that these laws are designed to help will, in the long run, be the people they hurt the most. Typical result for liberal/socialistic policies.

Obviously, the NYT is not going to say the truth: that the mandated minimum hourly rate is too much, and that someone getting paid that much is not worth it to the business. You know, the free market thing that the NYT hates.

Ah, San Francisco....

How much would you pay and be willing to do to escape the stench out in the streets of San Francisco for 45 minutes?

Who are you supposed to tip when there are no waiters and you have to bus your own (or the previous customers’ germy trash) table?

Aside from busing dirty tables, I’m all for this concept. But they need to lower their prices since the customers are doing a job and they have no waitstaff to pay. What’s with paying dishwashers $18/hr? Might as well have the customers bring in their own tableware same as bringing your own shopping bags.
