Officer in Antwon Rose Shooting Charged With Homicide

The suburban Pittsburgh police officer who fatally shot 17-year-old Antwon Rose was charged Wednesday with criminal homicide.

East Pittsburgh Police Officer Michael Rosfeld shot Rose, who was unarmed, three times in the back on June 19 as the teen fled a car that had been stopped by police. Rosfeld had been sworn into the police department just hours earlier.

“The Rose Family views the filing of criminal homicide charges with guarded optimism,” Fred and Monte Rabner, Rose’s family attorneys, said in a statement. “There is a long road ahead to a conviction and proper sentencing which is the only thing we will accept as justice.”

Rosfeld, 30, has been on administrative leave since the shooting. He has worked for several police forces in the past, but was sworn into the East Pittsburgh Police Department just hours before the shooting.

Police had pulled over the vehicle in which Rose was a passenger on suspicion that it was connected with an earlier shooting. As the driver was taken into custody, Rose and another passenger got out and attempted to run away. Rose was shot dead. Zaijuan Hester, 17, remained at large until his arrest on Monday.

Charged is one thing. Convicted is another. I expect he'll get off.

Show trials have given way to show indictments.

Local prosecutors often lack the funds, time and/or legal nous to pursue these cases but SJW agitation forces them to bring charges which are often later dismissed or abandoned.

The police had better learn that politicians are their bosses but not their allies.

A lot depends on the actual events. If he was an occupant of the car involved in a shooting then he is presumed dangerous to society and shooting him, even in the back, would be a good shoot to prevent further deadly violence IMHO.

Glad it wasn’t a puppy running away.

Puppies don't typically participate in drive by shootings.

How many drive-by shootings are done from an Uber?

Sources: Man Driving Antwon Rose Before Fatal East Pittsburgh Shooting Was A Jitney Driver

"The man who was driving 17-year-old Antwon Rose Jr. and one other suspect before a confrontation with police in East Pittsburgh Tuesday night was a jitney driver who had nothing to do with a shooting that occurred minutes before an officer shot and killed Rose."

I’ll wait for the facts and let the chips fall where they may and hope that justice prevails.

Fair or not. Legal or not. Right or wrong - whatever.

Running away from the cops is a good way to get shot. Ask Antwon. He was shot three times in the back.

Oh wait. Antwon is unavailable for comment.

Yes, the driver was known to be a jitney driver (unlicensed cabbie) and was let go. He was pulled over in the first place because the same model car had been involved in a drive-by shooting a very short time earlier. I’ve read that (a) the car had bulletholes in it, (b) although unarmed at the time he was shot, Antwon had an ammo clip in his pocket, and (c) video footage has been found showing Antwon actually doing the shooting in the earlier drive-by. Cannot confirm, but would it surprise anyone who’s been paying attention?

Still, will officer recruitment drop off?

Looks like they're scraping the bottom of the barrel as it is. The cop in question is 30 and on his third police department, if not more. What caused him to leave the other ones?

A career-ending mistake unless there were guns in the car and the cops knew about it as they made the stop.

Usually they steal a car but in this case they did. They found the pistols in the car and an empty mag in Rose's pocket.

The other 10 blacks killed by other blacks in the Burgh over the last 2 weeks don't matter.

Only this one is worthy of protest.

Only this one was shot by someone who is supposed to be the one protecting people.

I live in a suburb of NYC. I see our local town cops sometimes having been on the NYPD for a few years, which I am sure makes sense in terms of training and experience. But apart from that, our local p.d. rarely has officers joining from other departments. I guess it is a pleasant place to work and they are not desperate for hires. These department jumpers make me nervous in terms of their quality and reliability. They also defeat the idea of local law enforcement being made up of locals. Instead, they are more like hired guns, which breeds the “LEO” versus “civilian” culture instead of the local cop being a guy you went to high school with.

I don't know how the cop would have known there were guns in the car as opposed to suspecting it. But as to career-ending mistake, that remains to be seen.

There were 2 pistols in the car, an empty mag in Rose's pocket and the car had the back window shot out and bullet holes from return fire.

I have no doubt they would have killed the jitney driver too because he was a witness.
