Swiftly...
Is that in dog years or in Methuselah years?
I’m of the opinion that McConnell canceled summer recess to make dead sure that there’d be no recess appointments.
I’m guessing that the SCOTUS replacement will end up going along just as splendidly as all the other mass of appointments that are going no where.
Good..how about tomorrow, sounds good to me
51 GOP senators. Mccain ill and maybe not make confirmation vote. Would Schumer dare have Dems go into hiding so there is not a quorum? Would fed marshals go hunting them and drag their butts into the chamber?
As long as the vote for confirmation is before the mid-terms, it is a Dems lose or Constitutionalists win.
If the Democrat Senators in red states vote against it, they lose. If they vote for it, we win.
Winning!!!!
McConnell needs 50 votes (maybe 51 votes) to change the rules in the Senate to speed up nominations.
He has said that he doesn’t have those votes - there are a few Republican Senators who DO NOT want to speed things up. McConnell could call them out, but I don’t blame him for not doing so, as he still needs the votes of those people.
I don’t think there’s going to be any wobbly kneed Republicans . It’s what they’ve claimed they wanted for the longest time.
Justice Elena Kagen nominated by Obama on May 10, 2010 just before the 2010 Mid Term Elections
i hope swiftly means TOMORROW
It sounds as if this has been choreographed in advance.
I like it.
1) My source on court goings-on has been 100% right on everything he’s told me. He had Alito writing the Janus decision a week before it was announced, meaning it was a victory for us.
2) Further, he predicted last week Kennedy would retire right after the last vote.
3) He thinks Brett Kavanaugh of DC Circuit Court is the likely nominee (clerked for Kennedy, so he got a good rec). Amy Barrett Comey is likely #2 (46 and from IN, meaning Donnelly would be very hard pressed to vote against her).
4) Yertle rarely makes promises. He promised to get Gorsuch confirmed and did. He saw Kennedy coming and cleared the August recess specifically for him. Yertle has now promised to confirm Trump’s nominee, which tells me he already knows the votes.
This will cause a lot of angst.
Im curious to see if Ginsburg will retire before 2020 talk about heads imploding if that happens any heads left had to have metal plates or helmets !
Justice Kennedy might have killed any remaining chance of a “blue wave.” The red=state Democrats are between a rock and a hard place. Either they follow their party and vote no (and it hurts them at the polls with the Trump Democrats) or they vote for the nominee and tee off the Democrat base, who are already calling of for the nominee’s head, and we don’t even have a nominee yet.
Either way, they’re going to lose some voters they need.
The democrats will accuse every potential nominee of being a nazi and a racist and every other derogatory name they can think of..
You all know they will.
There will be more Justices retiring soon. I cannot imagine Ginsburg lasting very long.
Kennedy deciding to retire was a pleasant surprise. I truly hope Trump’s next pick is as good as Gorsuch. Sometimes justices betray the nation. Roberts sure was a disappointment. O’Conner was as well. Kennedy was a wild card, you never knew which was he would vote a lot of the time. Of those three, Reagan appointed two of them. I truly believe God intervened in the election and changed the hearts of some people behind the voting booth curtain. Trump could possibly get anywhere from 3 to 5 justices to appoint depending on how long he is president and how many others retire or pass on. Trump may shape the Supreme Court for a generation or more.
I fully expect Ruth Bader Ginsburg to do her best to hold on until Trump’s gone, but I doubt she will be able to. She’s over 80. She’s had cancer twice. There may come a time when she has no choice but leave the bench.
Yes but can he get the murkowski/ Collins wing to behave? There will be no democrat help on this one and we only have 50 votes assuming McCain stays in Arizona.
