Should 16-year-olds be able to vote? A majority of the D.C. Council thinks so
Washington Compost ^ | June 27, 2018 | Reis Thebault

As scores of young people crowded into a hearing room in the Wilson Building on Wednesday, D.C. Council members saw the future of D.C. politics.

“There are multiple future council members and a future mayor in this room,” said D.C. Council member Charles Allen (D-Ward 6).

But before they run for office, Allen wants to make them voters.

A bill he introduced in April would do just that, lowering the voting age to 16.

If passed, the bill would enfranchise up to 10,600 16- and 17-year-olds, according to Census Bureau data.

It would also be historic.

The nation’s capital would become the first municipality in the country to allow minors to vote for president, and the biggest city to let them vote in local races.

In recent years, three nearby Maryland communities — Takoma Park, Hyattsville and Greenbelt — along with Berkeley, Calif. — have lowered the voting age in their municipal elections to 16. There are similar campaigns underway in cities as large as San Francisco and towns as small as Ashfield, Mass.

Hell, dimbulbcrats think ANY age should be allowed to vote.
Unless they are of the fetus variety.
And can be killled on a whim.
Or for a latte.
Liberals are the enemy.
Treat them as such.

I think it should be as soon as you can say “mamma”.

The dems can just send them all a pre-filled out voting card and they can just make their mark on the bottom. Heck, anybody in the house should be able to do that. In fact, they could make copies of it and have the dog put his paw print on the bottom.

“If they are allowed to vote, they should be allowed to own and carry firearms.”

Agree. I don’t like this selective adulthood. Either you are an adult or you are not an adult.

They might as well...they can’t be any dumber than the 18 or older in DC.

has anybody figured out why big cities are so leftist/ socialist? I have lived in barracks, and apartments when I was single. But, I never liked living on top of another person and mowing my lawn by myself is personal relaxation therapy. so back the my main question. why are big cities leftist/ socialist?

Too young with zero life experience. Shouldn’t yet be voting. Generally they are dependent on parents/guardians for their care and support.

Heck, they can barely read and write. Of course, they’ll be treated like babies and given the information ahead of time so they won’t have to think or read about candidates/issues.

Of course dims want ever younger voters - it’s so easy to manipulate them emotionally and play on their need for more free “stuff”.

The reality is, very few 16 year olds would care enough to vote. The hurdle of getting out of bed and putting the phone down is just too high.

True, but you can bet every school would organize a field trip to the polls on Election Day and make sure they voted.

They would have 12 year olds vote if they could get away with it.

And they'd have that as the age of consent too.

Then push for it to be 9, since mohammad married a 9 year old, and we don't want to offend the muslims, do we? DO WE‽
