Should 16-year-olds be able to vote? A majority of the D.C. Council thinks so
Washington Compost ^ | June 27, 2018 | Reis Thebault

As scores of young people crowded into a hearing room in the Wilson Building on Wednesday, D.C. Council members saw the future of D.C. politics.

“There are multiple future council members and a future mayor in this room,” said D.C. Council member Charles Allen (D-Ward 6).

But before they run for office, Allen wants to make them voters.

A bill he introduced in April would do just that, lowering the voting age to 16.

If passed, the bill would enfranchise up to 10,600 16- and 17-year-olds, according to Census Bureau data.

It would also be historic.

The nation’s capital would become the first municipality in the country to allow minors to vote for president, and the biggest city to let them vote in local races.

In recent years, three nearby Maryland communities — Takoma Park, Hyattsville and Greenbelt — along with Berkeley, Calif. — have lowered the voting age in their municipal elections to 16. There are similar campaigns underway in cities as large as San Francisco and towns as small as Ashfield, Mass.

Since they locked up the dead vote, children are the obvious next step. Kids love getting free cookies.

That’s where all the freebies are. That’s where all the Section 8 apartments are. That’s where all the Community Organizers are.

One community organizer, with absolutely ZERO job skills, became the President of the USA.

Another community organizer just unseated a 20 yr member of Congress, promising everyone more free sh*t.

Sheep gravitate to other sheep. They can’t survive on their own. Is it any wonder why, when folks from California or the Northeast migrate somewhere(South, Mountain states), where the lifestyle is a bit more individualistic(for lack of a better term), the taxes are lower and there’s a better quality of life, do they ruin it within a few years. Because they can’t survive or function on their own. They have to be part of a group.

The age to vote should be at least 26...thats the age cut off for being on family Obamacare insurance.

Good point. The brain doesn't finish maturing until 25, add a year just to be sure...

Not as long as teachers unions control what children are taught.

With the increased lifespan, and parents able to carry their “children” on their insurance until 26 (per fake-named AFA), the voting age should be RAISED until 26.

In a sane society voting would be age PLUS demonstratable maturity, mental competency, and understanding / support of the Constitution. Probably 80% of the Democratic Party should be ineligible to vote.

Thanks for the “makes sense” answer. Its where people with no shame go to get continuous “free stuff”. Basically these people are almost worthless as individuals. I've always wondered how much these folks would freak out if you dropped them off in the middle of west Virginia (summertime of course- don't want anyone to be in any real danger of over exposure) and told them it was 25 miles to the next town. gave them a canteen of water, compass, a map, a knife and a lighter. how many would freak out before sundown and how many would freak out after sundown? did i mention that i would offer to trade them a belt for any item they have- their choice? - after all how far can you hike in the woods with you pants down around your knees?.. i’d say see ya tomorrow, got any bug spray?

It’s a national scheme. Here in CA and elsewhere there’s already voter pre-registration of high school students. The educational establishment now not only indoctrinates kids to be mini-Marxists but is intent on extending that indoctrination to the voting booth. The same strategy worked for Hitler, Mao and Stalin, so it’s right down the Democrats’ alley.

There’s an article in the NY Post about the NYC schools having registered 10,000 18 year old students to vote. How many of those are illegals, it’s hard to say. How they will vote, it’s completely (unfortunately) predictable. More commie votes, furthering NYC down the road to a red stain in the street.

So they want to give the vote to those who don’t have enough sense to avoid eating detergent pods? That’s a good idea? Am I missing something here?
