Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin is optimistic on U.S. economic growth.
"Were excited. This is the six month anniversary of tax cuts. Were expecting a big second quarter GDP number," he said on CNBC's "Squawk Box" on Wednesday. Let me just say I have no advance notice of what it looks like.
President Donald Trump signed the Republican tax overhaul in December, which lowered the corporate tax rate to 21 percent from 35 percent. Mnuchin cited the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta's projected GDP growth of 4.7 percent for the second quarter.
"I have no idea whether it will be that high, but a year ago people were laughing when we talked about 3 percent GDP," he said. "We have an economy that is here because of the president's tax plan and the president's regulatory relief and we always said trade is part of this."

Whatever it is, it SHALL be far higher than any quarter numbers, in all 8 years, that wee barry was pResident!
Rumors are growth is FIVE PERCENT..!
Q1 was just 2%, but with Trump’s big deficit spending package Q2 should be high, as our debt obligations climb to the moon.
Yep.
5.56mm
1984: last time we exceeded 5-percent. In the 1970s, I think we broke the 5-percent point around four occasions.
Beats continually hearing “unexpectedly” in government report announcements, that’s for darn sure.
And the stock market goes, bla. Just like it has done since the first of the year.
Makes you wonder doesn’t it?
Yes it is and whatever it may be, we all KNOW that it’ll be better than the numbers we suffered through with wee barry. We were actually in one of THE worst Recessions ( really a Depression sans the lowering of prices ) in this nation’s history, for those 8 long years.
Trade wars do tend to bring the market down.
I'm guessing that Mnuchin has heard the rumors that it will be 5 percent. Always good to identify a possible target and then exceed the target.
Yes, they happen so often..
Democrats go through so many fits of outrage, I forgot about that one!
“Makes you wonder” about what? I’ve been doing well in the stock market.
You mean the eight years he was pres__ent?
“:^)
LOL...good one! :-)
I really enjoyed using those to when talking about him.
Good. I’m long - and Mama’s gotta have a new pair of shoes!
