We need an updated approach to combat human trafficking
The Hill ^ | 06/29/18 | Sarah E. Mendelson

The role of the United States as a leader in combating human trafficking since the late 1990s has been rightly praised as both bipartisan and noteworthy. Now, with U.S. leadership on human rights in serious decline, it’s essential to rethink traditional approaches and to broaden constituencies devoted to this issue.

The work combating human trafficking of both Republican and Democratic administrations, going back to the Clinton White House, has dramatically shaped how the world has tackled this horrendous international crime where children, women, and men, through force, fraud or coercion, are exploited.

Among many highlights, it has included:

Working with Congress to legislate the creation of an office in the State Department led by an Ambassador to rate the efforts of countries around the world prohibiting human trafficking and punishing traffickers

Helping shape an internationally agreed definition of human trafficking that has been ratified by over 170 countries

Coordinating the interagency including the largest government-funded efforts in the world to combat trafficking overseen by among others the State Department, the Departments of Labor and Justice, and USAID, where between 2010 and 2014 I helped shape the Agency’s policy and strategy.

ETC...

The current border crisis is an opportunity to flip the script on Democrats.

We need to change the narrative from immigrants to ending human trafficking.

Whenever Democrats talk about immigration we need to correct them and tell them this isn't about immigration, it's about human trafficking.

We have the power to change the narrative.

Sure, turn everyone away at the border, allow people to cross legally at established border crossings. That will stop human trafficing.

All we need is a executive order stoping illegals with force. I really don’t understand the delay.

I think Trump is reluctant to go there, because such a move would trigger meltdowns among the Liberals in the media.

Then again they have meltdowns over everything he says and does anyway

I guess you are right. I assure you that if the communist were in power they would not hesitate.

My 2 cents:
When we capture a human trafficker, hang the SOB in a public place and let his carcass hang at the end of the rope until it decomposes and falls off on its own.
Nobody is deterred if the punishment is a fine or simple incarceration. People need to see a hanging body to ponder on the consequences of their own actions.

The biggest mistake with punishment is having it away from the eyes of the public.

Just produce polling data that illegal immigrants either now vote or plan to vote for republicans. The democrat leadership will man the border with machine guns and bump stocks themselves, mowing down anyone trying to cross into the U.S.

FReepers have made the point before that this isn’t “immigration,” it’s human trafficking and the Governments of Guatamala, El Salvador, Honduras, Mexico, and the U.S. Government under Obama were aiding and abetting it.

Human traffickers are difficult to catch.

They take their 'clients' to the border, drop them off, and run back to Mexico.

Our border patrol can't chase them down once they run back across the US/Mexican border.

This is something border patrol finds infuriating and frustrating.

Unless human traffickers cross into the US they're untouchable.

I think you're onto something there.

My pastor, a good-hearted not-very-political priest, was practically for open borders for "migrants," But zero-toleration, closed-border on "trafficking."

He just needed to be urged to listen to what he was saying. Literally.

We need covert operations that none of us ever hear about but somehow human trafficking decreases.

Execute traffickers. Execute drug dealers, distributors and kingpins. Execute child molesters.

But if you don’t favor the death penalty, see my FReeper profile for a suggested alternative.

I have thought that, what you propose. It’s a valid thought; but I have to doubt that it would be effective *unless* Republicans can reverse the Dem:Rep 37:1 repeat ratio. This we know they cannot do.

Whenever Democrats talk about immigration we need to correct them and tell them this isn't about immigration, it's about human trafficking.

Then we need to sit them down and show them this:
